Daily Fantasy Hockey 2015: NHL DraftKings Primer for January 28
After a very busy night of action on Tuesday, there is limited action on Wednesday in the NHL world. There are only three games on the schedule, but two of them—the Chicago Blackhawks vs. the Los Angeles Kings and the Washington Capitals vs. the Pittsburgh Penguins—are high-profile rivalry matchups.
With only a few games and multiple spots to fill, you will have to make some wise pairing choices, because selecting players from every team in action will do you no good. With that in mind, here's a primer for Wednesday's action.
| C | Jonathan Toews | @LAK | $7,100 |
| C | Patrik Elias | vs. TOR | $3,900 |
| W | Alex Ovechkin | vs. PIT | $9,300 |
| W | Andre Burakovsky | vs. PIT | $3,500 |
| W | Brandon Saad | @LAK | $5,700 |
| D | Cody Franson | @NJD | $4,400 |

Draft Lottery Winners and Losers
Centers: Jonathan Toews ($7,100) and Patrik Elias ($3,900)
Jonathan Toews is a solid selection to be the No. 1 center with only three games going on Wednesday night. Captain Serious has 11 points in his last 10 games and 26 points in 25 career games versus the Los Angeles Kings.
The Blackhawks are a team heading up the standings, so take Toews with confidence when he squares off against a struggling Kings squad.
Patrik Elias has been one of the bright spots on a mediocre New Jersey Devils team this season. Elias has seven points in his last eight games, and with 33 points in 52 career games versus the Toronto Maple Leafs, he is a bargain pickup, so you can spend money on more important parts of your team.
Wingers: Alex Ovechkin ($9,300), Brandon Saad ($5,700) and Andre Burakovsky ($3,500)
Alex Ovechkin has played very well as of late, including 13 points in his last 11 games. He has historically played well against Pittsburgh, and there is a good chance he will feast on a Penguins lineup without Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin.

Brandon Saad has seven goals in his last 10 games, and he's a player who makes a ton of sense to pick up for $5,700. Choosing Saad will allow for the possibility of earning double points because he plays with Toews, and that will maximize the value of your investment. The 'Hawks duo is preparing to face the Kings, who are 2-3-5 in their last 10 games played.
The last winger to select is Ovechkin's linemate, Andre Burakovsky. The Capitals' young winger is in the midst of a successful rookie season, and in the last 11 games, he has three goals, three assists and six points.
Burakovsky is playing alongside Nicklas Backstrom in addition to Ovechkin, and he's bound to pick up some secondary points on Wednesday.
Defensemen: Cody Franson ($4,400) and Duncan Keith ($4,500)

Cody Franson is having an amazing season, and pretty soon you won’t be able to pick him up for $4,400. He is one of the better defenders in the league, and there's a chance he will be in a new uniform next season.
He is one of the members of the Toronto Maple Leafs who is most likely to be traded, according to TSN Insider Darren Dreger, so get the most out of him while his price is low. Franson has six points in his last 10 games and 29 points this season, which puts him in the top 15 for all defensemen.
To round out your blue line, pick up Duncan Keith, a defender who has had a solid season. The reigning Norris Trophy winner is coming out of a cold slump, and picking him up as he returns to form would be very smart. He has four points in his last 10 games and is on the verge of breaking out.
Goalie: Braden Holtby ($8,800)

Braden Holtby had a rough night on Tuesday versus the Columbus Blue Jackets, but that shouldn't scare you from taking him. He played a pretty good game and was one of the reasons Washington almost came back and tied the game.
On the season, he has a 22-10-8 record, a 2.31 goals-against average and a .920 save percentage. Holtby has been a workhorse this season, and he should thrive against a Penguins squad that will likely be without Crosby and Malkin.
Utility: Daniel Winnik ($2,800)
Due to loading up in other areas, there wasn't much money left for the utility spot. Daniel Winnik would be a good pickup for the low cost of $2,800, because he is a decent contributor who plays a straightforward game. Winnik has 19 points on the season, but he has two goals and five points in his last 10 games played.
