Snickers produced one of the most buzz-worthy spots of this year's Super Bowl commercials. It features popular actor Danny Trejo portraying the role of Marcia Brady from The Brady Bunch.
What made it stand out from a large group of contenders was the combination of two key factors: nostalgia and execution.
Original episodes of the The Brady Bunch have been off the airwaves for more than four decades. The sitcom has remained popular in reruns ever since, however. Thus, even younger viewers probably understand the not-so-subtle references, like the house shot or "Marcia" getting hit in the nose by a football.

While that satisfies the highly popular nostalgia factor, trying to weave a new production into an old show can be tricky. Getting the lines and video to sync together with something from many years ago is often a stumbling point.

This theme has been a hit for Snickers, so it makes sense to stay the course. Trejo is the perfect selection for the "before" character, given all of the villain roles he's become associated with throughout his career. He's also an easily recognizable personality.
Although it's difficult to get an exact read on which commercials will win the Super Bowl ad battles each year, this one seems to have a good shot to rate highly. Many of the aspects that usually connect with the audience are present, and it's clear which company is involved.
