Biggest Potential Difference Maker: Tom Brady, QB, New England

The biggest potential star in the Super Bowl is New England quarterback Tom Brady. With Seattle boasting an incredible defense that finished the year ranked first against the pass (allowing just 185.6 yards per game), the Patriots need to find consistency through the air.

Brady has been red hot in the postseason, helping his team rack up 35 points against the Baltimore Ravens in the divisional round and 45 points on the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC Championship.

While the talk should be about the matchup between Brady and the Seahawks secondary, the controversy surrounding footballs being under-inflated in the conference championship round—dubbed Deflategate—has stolen many headlines.

When asked about his feelings toward Deflategate, Brady spoke honestly with WEEI's Dennis & Callahan program, via Mike Reiss of ESPN.com:

"

I personalized a lot of things and thought this was all about me and my feelings got hurt, and then I moved past it because it's not serving me. I think what's serving me is to try to prepare for the game ahead, and I'll deal with whatever happens later. I'll have my opportunity to try to figure out what happened and figure out a theory like everyone else is trying to do. But this isn't the time for that, and honestly I'm not interested in trying to find out right now because we have the biggest game of our season ahead.

"

Brady shouldn’t be too worried about his perception with the public as the matchup with Richard Sherman, Earl Thomas and the rest of the Legion of Boom looms. Fortunately for Brady, he has viable weapons like Rob Gronkowski, Julian Edelman and Brandon LaFell to utilize, and the offense will find holes to exploit.

While there are few fans who will mistake Brady as a mobile quarterback, Steve Palazzolo of Pro Football Focus shares a great statistic regarding improvements he has made this season:

Against Baltimore, Brady was forced to air the ball out, but rose to the occasion and amassed 367 yards, four total touchdowns (three passing and one rushing) and one interception. He wasn’t needed to do as much against Indianapolis, only racking up 226 yards, but still added three touchdowns and one interception.

New England will face the same tough test that awaited Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Championship, but Brady’s Super Bowl experience will help keep his team calm and playing well.

If the Patriots players around Brady raise their level of play Sunday, Brady will steal the show and lead his team to another championship.

Predicted Final Score: New England 27, Seattle 24
