Urban Renewal: Gators Have Bite to Repeat
Water is wet.
Megan Fox is hot.
The Florida Gators are the best team in college football.
Gotta love sure things.
To rank the Gators atop any preseason poll isn't a stretch. Face it: Urban Meyer's defending national champions are clearly better than anyone else. With the amount of returning firepower and (yet) another solid recruiting class to fill in the gaps, to see Florida not playing for the BCS Title would fall under the list of great disappointments of the year (G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, anyone?).
Barring the unforseen, QB Tim Tebow will guide the Gators through the Southeastern Conference gauntlet, make a bid for a second Heisman Trophy and earn a third national title, securing his place among the 4-5 greatest players in college football history, at which point Gator fans will request he become the fifth face on Mt. Rushmore.
It's not a question of if Florida reaches the BCS Title Game, it's a question of who they'll face. With that in mind, I now unveil my Preseason Top 25:
1. Florida
2. Texas
3. USC
4. Oklahoma
5. Alabama
6. Ohio State
7. Mississippi
8. Penn State
9. LSU
10. Virginia Tech
11. Oklahoma State
12. Notre Dame
13. California
14. Georgia
15. BYU
16. Illinois
17. TCU
18. Georgia Tech
19. North Carolina
20. Miami (Fla.)
21. Nebraska
22. Clemson
23. Oregon
24. Iowa
25. Southern Mississippi
Southern Miss? Really? Hey, the Eagles have the talent and a friendly-enough schedule to not only reach the top 25, but also make a bid for a BCS bowl. If there's a non-BCS school capable of pulling off the shocker, SoMiss may be it.
Let the debate begin....
