Manchester United Transfer News: Latest Edinson Cavani, Raphael Varane Rumours
Manchester United look set to face competition from Serie A in the race to sign Paris Saint-Germain's wantaway striker Edinson Cavani.
According to Tuttosport (h/t the Daily Star's Colin Harvey), Juventus are eager to sign the Uruguay international, the Italian champions believing he is "the man they need to push them onto the next level in Europe."
United have previously been linked with an elaborate swap deal for Cavani which would see the Red Devils confirm the signing of loanee Radamel Falcao from Monaco before immediately trading him for the 27-year-old, per L'Equipe (h/t The Telegraph).

As B/R UK's Alex Dimond outlines below, such a deal is potentially not as ludicrous as it seems, but United seemingly face competition from Juve:
The Turin outfit may also hold the upper hand over United as PSG are reportedly prepared to use Cavani in a bid to sign Juve's star man, Paul Pogba, per Goal.com's Robin Bairner:
Cavani's imminent departure from the Parc des Princes does seem likely, however, as he is reportedly unhappy in the French capital, consistently playing second fiddle to Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
He has bagged eight Ligue 1 goals so far this term, per WhoScored.com, and ESPN's Craig Burley believes he can flourish away from PSG, but it remains to be seen where he will end up:
Another United target reportedly being pursued elsewhere is Real Madrid centre-back Raphael Varane.
United's defensive troubles have been well catalogued this season, and while they are improving, reinforcements are needed, with the 21-year-old reportedly a target of Louis van Gaal's, per Anthony Chapman of the Express.
However, Chapman reports that if Los Blancos are successful in signing David Luiz from PSG, then Chelsea, not United, will be the beneficiaries, with Varane then making a £20 million move to Stamford Bridge to rejoin former boss Jose Mourinho.

Carlo Ancelotti is reportedly eager to pair Luiz with Sergio Ramos as Pepe's career draws to a close, leaving the Frenchman Varane struggling for a first-team spot.
While Varane is an immensely talented defender, he would potentially be a risky signing for Van Gaal considering his youth.
The United boss needs to add experience and composure to his back line, and should Varane be allowed to leave the Bernabeu, it would not be such a blow for the Red Devils if he did indeed end up at Chelsea.
