Liverpool Transfer News and Rumours Tracker: Week of January 26

The winter transfer window closes next Monday and clubs up and down the country will be frantically taking the opportunity to bolster their squads ahead of the final months of the season.

Last January we saw Liverpool attempting to tie up a deal for Yevhen Konoplyanka at the last minute, but Dnipro failed to allow the deal to happen. Will we get a similar last-minute move this month?

It looks unlikely.

Brendan Rodgers insists that "Unless something dramatic happens we will go with what we have" (as per This Is Anfield).

Alas, that won't stop the tabloids filling their pages and websites with transfer rumours.

Here, we track the latest Liverpool FC-related transfer news and rumours.

Let's start with the more reliable of reports, with ESPNFC's Richard Jolly claiming Liverpool are "increasingly confident" of acquiring James Milner on a free transfer this summer.

Milner, a bit-part player at Manchester City is available due to his contract expiring and despite Manuel Pellegrini claiming he was hopeful he would sign a new deal "in the next few days" earlier this month, he looks set to leave in search of more regular football.

The 29-year-old would add valuable experience and versatility to Liverpool's squad and an excellent acquisition on a free.

Sometimes two plus two really does equal five in the world of football transfer rumours and this is very much a classic case of such reporting.

Liverpool, who could use a goalkeeper, are linked with the goalkeeper who won man of the match against Liverpool on Saturday. Fantastic!

Adam Bogdan—despite being Championship side Bolton's second choice—was linked via Matt Lawton of MailOnline, among others, within 24 hours of his display at Anfield on Saturday. Proof if ever that even you can be a journalist making up transfer rumours.

Asked about this supposed link on Monday morning, Rodgers said there was "nothing at all" in the reports (via This Is Anfield).

Another tenuous one, The Daily Star links Liverpool with Inter Milan's Argentine forward Mauro Icardi.

Bruce Archer claims though that "According to reports in Spain Atletico Madrid will also table a bid in the region of £30m."
