AS report that Real Madrid have reached an agreement with River Plate over the transfer of young goalkeeper Augusto Batalla. The deal will be made official prior to the Spanish transfer deadline on Friday night.

The 18-year-old is currently representing Argentina at the South American Under-20 Championship in Uruguay. While he is yet to make his first-team debut for River Plate, he is considered one of the top goalkeeping talents in the country.

He is expected to join up with Real Madrid Castilla upon his arrival in Madrid.

Manu Sainz of AS reports that Manchester United have put aside €150 million in their budget in order to launch a bid for Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale this summer.

Sainz notes that Madrid are already aware of United's interest but have made it clear that they do not wish to sell the 25-year-old, while Bale himself has underlined his intention to stay at the Bernabeu.

AS (h/t Inside Futbol) report that Asier Illarramendi is set to turn down a January move to Athletic Bilbao in favour of remaining at Real Madrid until the end of the season.

Athletic and Madrid are said to be close to agreeing a €25 million deal for the midfielder, who would be offered a five-and-a-half year contract. Yet Wednesday's report suggests that he is keen to wait until the summer before deciding on his long-term future.

Monday, January 26

Pablo Polo of Marca writes that Real Madrid midfielder Asier Illarramendi will make a decision over his future by the end of the week.

Athletic Bilbao are reported to have tabled a €25 million bid for the 24-year-old and while Madrid have moved quickly to bring in Lucas Silva as a replacement, they will not force Illarramendi to leave in January.

He is understood to be keen to stay and fight for his place, so the completion of the deal now rests on the persuasive powers of Athletic coach Ernesto Valverde.

Jose Luis Gaya

Wednesday, January 28

Jose Felix Diaz of Marca reports that Real Madrid could soon elect to firm up their interest in Valencia full-back Jose Luis Gaya.

Diaz notes that the capital club have been tracking Gaya for some time, but that it was his fine performance in Valencia's 2-1 victory over Madrid at the start of January that finally convinced them to make a move.

The 19-year-old's contract includes an €18 million release clause, which Madrid would be willing to pay in full in order to bring him to the Bernabeu on a long-term deal.

Aymeric Laporte

Monday, January 26

Jose Vicente Hernaez of Marca reports that Real Madrid are seeking to parlay Athletic Bilbao's interest in Asier Illarramendi into a deal for the Basque club's highly rated centre-back Aymeric Laporte.

Hernaez reveals that Madrid have identified Laporte as the ideal long-term replacement for Pepe, who turns 32 next month, and that his name was mentioned to Athletic officials during discussions over the potential transfer of Illarramendi.

Madrid's overtures were, however, quickly shut down. Athletic president Jose Urrutia has repeatedly stated that any club that wishes to purchase Laporte will have to pay the buyout clause of €42 million, and he refused to enter talks with Madrid over a move for the 20-year-old.
