Milan Transfer News and Rumours Tracker: Week of January 26
Just over a week remains in the January transfer window, and AC Milan are not yet finished.
They've already made two big moves this month: Alessio Cerci from Atletico Madrid and Suso from Liverpool.
Those two signings did not require more spending (surprise!), but the Rossoneri have opened their wallets for Roma's Mattia Destro, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.
Another foot injury to Stephan El Shaarawy set off a mad scramble for a new striker. The club confirmed on Monday that El Shaarawy will miss at least six weeks.
Let's take a look at this week's rumours. (Updates coming throughout the week.)
—LAST UPDATED ON THURSDAY, JANUARY 29—
Mattia Destro off to Milan
1 of 5
Milan have been chasing Mattia Destro for a long time, and now they have finally captured the 23-year-old.
Destro agreed to join Milan on loan after Milan's Adriano Galliani met with the player at his house in Rome. Both Milan and Roma had already agreed to a deal, per Gianluca Di Marzio.
The fee for the initial loan stands at €700,000, while the option to buy is set at €16 million.
Milan had proposed a loan deal with the option to buy the Roma forward once before. Roma's stance changed because they are trying to sign Luiz Adriano from Shakhtar Donetsk.
Destro has scored five goals this season, but he has only started eight out of 16 matches with the Giallorossi.
Salvatore Bocchetti on His Way to Milan
2 of 5
Milan have signed former Genoa defender Salvatore Bocchetti on loan, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.
The 28-year-old has five caps with the Italian national team, but he has fallen off the radar since moving to Russia in 2010.
Bocchetti is coming from Spartak Moscow, where he has spent the past two seasons. The deal includes an option to buy.
Michel Essien on the Way out
3 of 5
Michael Essien will most likely leave Milan. The question is when.
His agent told Calciomercato.com, via Football Italia, that the 32-year-old has every intention to respect his Milan contract, which ends this summer. The Essien camp has already rejected moves to West Bromwich Albion and Queens Park Rangers.
But Gianluca Di Marzio's team is reporting that Milan are willing to let Essien leave now.
Turkish club Istanbul Basaksehir have made an offer to the player. The move is up to him.
"Milan would save a little more than 1 million euro in wages should Essien leave in January," writes David Amoyal of GianlucaDiMarzio.com.
Pablo Armero for Luca Antonelli?
4 of 5
Pablo Armero's time at Milan could be coming to an end.
Gianluca Di Marzio reports that the Rossoneri are trying to move the Colombian full-back before the transfer deadline. CEO Adriano Galliani has reportedly met with Genoa to discuss a deal, particularly a swap with left-back Luca Antonelli.
Armero is on loan from Udinese, so any potential move would require consent from the Friuli club.
Armero's agent confirmed the negotiations to Milannews.it (h/t Football Italia) but reiterated that it is just "the start."
Antonelli is a Milan youth product. He even scored the winner against Milan in a 1-0 win for Genoa this past December.
Dani Osvaldo Looking for Milan Move
5 of 5
For several days last week, Osvaldo went completely missing. Inter had no idea where the on-loan Southampton forward had gone.
Needless to say, he is all but finished with the Nerazzurri.
Of course, wherever there is trouble, there is Milan. Osvaldo's agent is negotiating an exit from Inter, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, via Football Italia, and not (as previously reported) trying to sue for damages.
The 29-year-old favours a move to the other side of Milan. He could also return to Juventus.
Osvaldo has scored five goals for Inter this season.
