Gabriel and Joel Campbell Deals Complete

Thursday, January 29

Arsenal have confirmed the signing of Gabriel Paulista from Villarreal, while also admitting Joel Campbell has joined the Spaniard's on a loan for the remainder of the season.

Gabriel will near the No. 5 and goes straight in to contention for the match against Aston Villa this weekend.

Campbell, meanwhile, signed a new Arsenal deal shortly before moving to Spain. That could either be a guarantee as to a long-term future in London, or a ploy to ensure the Gunners receive a decent fee for him in the summer.

Arsenal are finally about to sign the new centre-half they need. According to the BBC, the Gunners are on the verge of completing the signing of Gabriel Paulista:

"

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed a deal to sign Villarreal defender Gabriel Paulista is imminent.

The La Liga club say an agreement has been reached in principle for the £15m-rated 24-year-old to move to London.

Gunners' striker Joel Campbell, 22, is moving the opposite way on loan, according to the Spanish club.

Paulista has "good potential" according to Arsenal boss Wenger, who is hopeful that the transfer will go through on Monday.

"

There had initially been concerns that the Brazilian would not be able to get a work permit to play in English football. However, Wenger and Arsenal are very confident that they will receive a favourable ruling.

If the formalities of the deal are completed in time, Gabriel could be available to face Aston Villa at the weekend.

Arsenal Linked with Ambitious Sergio Busquets Bid

According to Bruce Archer of the Daily Star, Arsenal are one of several clubs keeping a keen eye on Sergio Busquets' contract negotiations with Barcelona.

It seems improbable that Busquets would ever leave the Camp Nou, just as it seems hugely unlikely that he'd choose Arsenal in the event of his departure.

This is a rumour we can probably discount entirely.
