Australian Open 2015: Twitter Reacts to Day 7 Bracket Results, Scores, Winners
On a day when Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray and Maria Sharapova all won matches, it was Australian Nick Kyrgios who stole the show Sunday at the Australian Open.
Kyrgios was down two sets to none against Italian Andreas Seppi but engineered a remarkable comeback, winning the next three sets—including a thrilling 8-6 final set—to advance to the quarterfinals.
As you might imagine, the home crowd was thrilled to see the Australian pull off the win. Here's how they reacted, via the Australian Open on Twitter:
Kyrgios was quick to credit them for helping him get through the contest:
That sets up a Kyrgios-Murray quarterfinal. Murray himself had quite the battle on his hands, needing four grueling sets to get past Grigor Dimitrov. In a way, it was classic Murray, as he was brilliant at moments and maddeningly inconsistent at others. As Howard Bryant of ESPN noted, the match really could have gone any way:
The other big names in action, Nadal and Sharapova, had far less difficulty moving on, as Jon Wertheim of Sports Illustrated noted:
Nadal cruised against Kevin Anderson, winning 7-5, 6-1, 6-4, while Sharapova had little difficulty dispatching of Shuai Peng 6-3, 6-0. Nadal next will face a player in Tomas Berdych he hasn't had many issues with in recent play, as Live Tennis tweeted:
"#Nadal has won 37 of the last 40 sets he's played against #Berdych. They meet in the AO QFs http://t.co/eagbSjZo9g pic.twitter.com/BpWR7JVpUT

Sharapova will be tested in the quarters, where Eugenie Bouchard awaits after her 6-1, 5-7, 6-2 defeat of Irina-Camelia Begu. Bouchard nearly threw this one away, as Adnan Virk of ESPN tweeted during the match:
But she recovered despite nearly collapsing. Sharapova will present quite the challenge, however.
Simona Halep will face Ekaterina Makarova in the other quarterfinal that was decided Sunday.
Day 8 at the Australian Open should be a dandy, with the Williams sisters, Victoria Azarenka and Novak Djokovic in action. Azarenka's matchup against Dominika Cibulkova has the chance to be the day's best contest.
Of course, it will be tough to overshadow the magical comeback by Kyrgios or the gutty performance from Murray, but you never know when you'll get to see an instant classic Down Under.
