Maxwell Comments on Injury
Tuesday, Oct. 6
"I have a quad contusion," Maxwell said, per Eliot Shorr-Parks of NJ.com, "but it feels better. But I still can't really run, and slowing down is hard."
When asked if he would play on Sunday, he sounded optimistic: "No, as it is looking right now, I don't think I'll be out this week. But you never know how these things are."
Eagles' Secondary Needs Maxwell to Remain Healthy
If Maxwell is forced to miss time in the future, it's going to stretch the Philadelphia secondary thin. Nolan Carroll would likely slide into the No. 1 corner role and be asked to slow down opponents' top targets with Eric Rowe and E.J. Biggers also taking on more snaps in the defensive backfield.
The Eagles signed Maxwell from the Seattle Seahawks to provide some much-needed stability in the secondary after finishing 31st against the pass last season. They still lack depth at corner, however, which makes his injury even more of a concern.
The 27-year-old Clemson product missed three games during his final season in Seattle with a calf injury. Otherwise he's remained mostly durable over the past couple of years, playing in 29 of 32 regular-season games as part of the Legion of Boom.
Maxwell should slot right back in atop the depth chart against Drew Brees and the Saints' passing attack. Despite the cornerback's rocky start with his new team, the Eagles pass defense will miss his presence if he picks up an injury in the future.
