NHL All-Star Game 2015: Date, Start Time, Rosters, TV Schedule and Live Stream

Mike ChiariJan 24, 2015

With an interesting fantasy draft in the books, the rosters are set for what promises to be an exciting and high-scoring 2015 NHL All-Star Game.

The NHL's superstar showcase may very well be better than that of any other sports league due to the emphasis on skill and entertainment value. No All-Star Game has been held since 2012, which means there is a ton of anticipation and hype built up for this year's edition.

Friday night's fantasy draft made for some intriguing rosters, with regular teammates being separated in some cases and even some rivals being paired together.

Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane on Opposite Sides

COLUMBUS, OH - JANUARY 23: Jonathan Toews #19 of the Chicago Blackhawks and Team Toews talks to Patrick Kane #88 of the Chicago Blackhawks and Team Foligno during the NHL All-Star Fantasy Draft as part of the 2015 NHL All-Star Weekend at Greater Columbus

Chicago Blackhawks star forwards Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane have been two of the most productive and successful players in the NHL since entering the league. They have been side by side every step of the way, but that will change in the 2015 NHL All-Star Game.

With Toews captaining his own team and Kane serving as one of Nick Foligno's assistants, the two-time Stanley Cup champions will be on opposite ends of the ice Sunday.

Both Toews and Kane debuted during the 2007-08 season, and they have been equally responsible for the Blackhawks' resurgence. They have each won the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP, and both are regarded as being among the NHL's best players.

According to Chris Kuc of the Chicago Tribune, there is a brotherly bond of sorts between the 26-year-old forwards:

As is the case with any brothers or best friends, though, there is a certain amount of competitiveness. That was on full display during the fantasy draft when Toews and Kane attempted to one-up each other with each passing pick.

The Blackhawks captain even talked a little trash following the selections, per Mark Lazerus of the Chicago Sun-Times:

Since All-Star Games generally don't get very physical, it isn't as if Toews and Kane will look to lay each other out or drop the gloves. What they will do, though, is try to top the other in terms of pure skill and offensive wizardry.

Add in the fact that Toews drafted Blackhawks defenseman Brent Seabrook and goalie Corey Crawford, while Kane picked defenseman Duncan Keith, and it is clear that the 2015 NHL All-Star Game will feel like a battle of Chicago.

Steven Stamkos and Alexander Ovechkin on Same Team

While defensemen and goalies certainly deserve to be recognized as All-Stars, it is no secret that the game itself is largely about scoring. It is the one time over the course of the season that teams aren't necessarily worried about shutting down the opposition.

With that in mind, it's tough for any hockey fan to not get excited about the fact that Team Foligno managed to land both Tampa Bay Lightning sniper Steven Stamkos and Washington Capitals superstar Alex Ovechkin.

Stamkos and Ovechkin may be the two top goal scorers in hockey today. They have won the Maurice "Rocket" Richard Trophy as the NHL's leading goal scorer six times between each other. They have also combined for a total of seven 50-goal seasons.

Since both players are brimming with talent, most figured that they would be selected early in the draft. Jeremy Roenick of NBC Sports assumed one of them would be the first overall pick:

Stamkos and The Great Eight fell down the board, though, due largely to team allegiances. In the end, they both landed on Team Foligno, which could make for some awesome moments.

In addition to their ability, Stamkos and Ovechkin take this game seriously. According to Chris Johnston of Sportsnet, Ovechkin views it as a responsibility:

Similarly, Stamkos is grateful for the opportunity to be called an All-Star after struggling through an injury last season, per NHL.com's Dan Rosen.

"

It kind of gave me a new outlook not only on events like this, but just your career as a professional athlete. ... You have a new appreciation for life as a professional athlete. No matter how hard you work, how hard you train, how well you take care of your body, you can't control certain things. You never know how many chances you're going to get to come to events like this so you try to enjoy it while you can because you never really know what's going to happen next.

"

It remains to be seen what Team Foligno's lines will look like, but Stamkos and Ovechkin would be a match made in heaven. If they are on the same line, then it is easy to envision the rest of Team Foligno's forwards lobbying to skate alongside them.

With Stamkos and Ovechkin firing at will, Team Toews' goalies had better take cover.

Prediction

COLUMBUS, OH - JANUARY 23: (L-R, Back to Front Row) Patrice Bergeron #37 of the Boston Bruins, Jaroslav Halak #41 of the New York Islanders, Aaron Ekblad #5 of the Florida Panthers, Mike Hoffman #68 of the Ottawa Senators, Johnny Gaudreau #13 of the Calg

Picking the winner of an All-Star Game is often difficult, since both teams are loaded with talent. There has to be a certain amount of focus on offense in the NHL All-Star Game, though, which means the more skilled team has an advantage.

Team Foligno has its fair share of dynamic scorers, such as Stamkos, Ovechkin, Kane, Claude Giroux of the Philadelphia Flyers and Phil Kessel of the Toronto Maple Leafs. With that said, Team Toews simply has more from top to bottom.

In fact, Team Toews already had an advantage, with Toews, New York Rangers winger Rick Nash and Anaheim Ducks center Ryan Getzlaf forming the nucleus of the team before the draft even started. Add in Tyler Seguin of the Dallas Stars, Flyers winger Jakub Voracek, New York Islanders center John Tavares, St. Louis Blues star Vladimir Tarasenko and more, and it is tough to pick against that team.

Team Toews also has elite offensive defensemen, such as Nashville Predators rearguard Shea Weber and Calgary Flames blueliner Mark Giordano, which will allow it to break out of the zone and activate the attack.

While Team Foligno may have a slight advantage in goal with Carey Price of the Montreal Canadiens, Pittsburgh Penguins backstop Marc-Andre Fleury and Blues netminder Brian Elliott, all goalies are essentially on level ground in the All-Star Game.

With that in mind, look for Team Toews to come out on top 13-11 in a high-scoring thriller and for Seguin to take MVP honors.
