Note to Mark Richt:The UGLY Losses Have to Stop!!

Rhett McAbeeAug 10, 2009

It seems like forever ago that Mark Richt was about to begin his first season as head coach of the Georgia Bulldogs.

After two Sec championships and three BCS bowl appearances Richt could be entering his most pivotal year. Last year was supposed to be his best yet; the Dawgs came into the season as the top ranked team in country and were on fire at the end of the 2007 season.

However, a rash of injuries in camp, combined with the pressure surrounding the program during the season; caused them to fall well short of expectations.

All though Georgia lost to quality teams last year, it was the way that they lost those games that still reverberates in the mind's of Georgia fans.

From the slaughter in the black out by Alabama, to the timeout payback offered by Tebow and company, Georgia was not ready for their biggest games. Also don’t forget the Ramblin' Wreck running all over Georgia to throw salt into the wounds.

Now entering 2009 Georgia is under the radar. They are not predicted to hang with Florida, and they have to face murderer's row to open the season. Because of this, some might say that this season is not crucial for Mark Richt's success.

That may be true, however, I get the feeling that Bulldawg nation his getting tired of the one or two bad losses that seem to follow Richt each year.

Since his first season in 2001, Richt can't seem to win that big game each year.

First, look at the 2002 season. Georgia finished 13-1, with that lone loss coming to Florida; which was not the Florida the Dawgs faced under the Ole Ball Coach.

In 2003 once again they lost to Florida, and lost to LSU twice.

Entering 2004 expectations were high, but once again Georgia, lost to Tennessee and Auburn.

Although Georgia won the SEC in 2005, they still lost to Florida also lost at home to Auburn.

The great run the Dawgs had in 2007 was no different. They lost at home to South Carolina, and got run out of Knoxville with there tails between their legs by the Volunteers.

This trend cannot continue if Richt is going to remain at Georgia.

The state of Georgia is loaded with talent, and it doesn’t take a whole lot to have a top ten recruiting class year in and year out.

Somewhere along the way, Richt has to stop losing games to teams in a head-scratching, jaw-dropping manner, and have his team prepared for the "big" and "little" games.

The Dawgs need to take the next step, and win a BCS championship; something they should have already accomplished.
