WWE Royal Rumble 2015: Superstars Who Will Exceed Expectations

Donald WoodJan 23, 2015

The excitement surrounding the 2015 Royal Rumble pay-per-view has hardcore and casual wrestling fans alike ready for the action, but there are several WWE Superstars who will exceed expectations.

While everyone is expecting a big night from the likes of Brock Lesnar, John Cena, Daniel Bryan and Roman Reigns, there are several other wrestlers who will be put in the position to succeed on Sunday night in Philadelphia.

Here are the top WWE Superstars who will exceed expectations at the 2015 Royal Rumble.

Seth Rollins Will Shine in Triple Threat

One Superstar who will thrive under pressure at the Royal Rumble and make a name for himself is Seth Rollins. The WWE Universe knows Rollins as the Money in the Bank briefcase-holder and The Authority’s hand-chosen future, but he will steal the show on Sunday.

Rollins will fight for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in a Triple Threat match against defending champion Lesnar and Cena, but few fans think Rollins will be the one who walks out of the Royal Rumble with the title.

Regardless of whether he wins the belt or not, he will be the most important part of this match.

The fans have seen Lesnar fight Cena on several different occasions over the last several years, and the interest level in the singles match booked initially for Royal Rumble was not making major waves in the wrestling industry.

The WWE chose to add Rollins and his briefcase to add the possibility of a new champion heading into Fast Lane.

Not only has Rollins added intrigue to the match by just being involved, but his high-flying in-ring style and storytelling ability will help make this one of the most interesting and unpredictable title matches in recent memory.

Lesnar will bring the brute force and Cena will bring his five moves of doom, but it will be the fast-paced attacks of Rollins that will have the crowd buzzing. Add in his ability to sell with the best in the business, and the Triple Threat match will steal the show.

Lesnar should walk out of Philadelphia with the championship, but Rollins will be the real winner.

Cesaro and Tyson Kidd Make Pre-Show Must-Watch Programming

Cesaro is one of the best technical wrestlers in the WWE today. Tyson Kidd is also one of the best technical wrestlers in the WWE today. Alone, they have been lost in the shuffle. Together, they have the power to steal the show and make a name for themselves.

Especially in Philadelphia.

This year’s Royal Rumble will take place in front of the hard-working men and women of Philly, and the crowd will be able to recognize these men's skill and blue-collar approach to the sport.

Cesaro and Kidd will be surrounded by wrestlers lacking the same qualities they possess, so it will be their job to shine through. While Adam Rose and The New Day all have talent, Cesaro and Kidd should be pushed as one of the best tag teams in the company.

Using the Royal Rumble pre-show as their platform, the WWE Universe should expect Cesaro and Kidd to pull out all the stops when they are in the ring and do their best to shine.

While it is unclear how much time they’ll get, the two men understand how important this chance is and will not squander it.

The Ascension Get Legendary

After burying local talent, getting dogged out by the announcers and jobbing to three of the greatest tag teams in WWE history on the go-home edition of Raw, it’s time for The Ascension to make its mark on the business.

The Ascension will square off against The New Age Outlaws Sunday, and it is the perfect opportunity to begin booking the tag team properly. Konnor and Viktor were the most dominant team in NXT history and should look that way moving forward.

The WWE Universe was not going to accept The Ascension in its gimmick of trying to be the Road Warriors, but it has a better chance now after getting beat down by The Outsiders and The APA.

The fans see The Ascension at the bottom of the barrel and now the WWE will begin building its legitimacy by having it defeat The New Age Outlaws.

The hope is that following the victory at the Royal Rumble, The Ascension will begin taking down several old tag teamsin the same way that Randy Orton adapted the Legend Killer gimmickculminating in a huge WrestleMania moment.

With the announcers and the booking not giving them a chance so far, Konnor and Viktor will have the chance to beat The New Age Outlaws and prove all the doubters wrong about their in-ring ability and long-term upside.
