Breaking Down the Royal Rumble Match
There are matches over the course of the year that are remembered more than the Royal Rumble Battle Royal, but none is more anticipated than the 30-man over-the-top-rope extravaganza that takes place annually at this PPV.
Add the fact that the winner of this match will earn the right to main event WrestleMania 31 and challenge for the world title, and this bout has major long-term implications.
What makes this year’s event so interesting is the fact that the WWE has booked several Superstars to look strong in the weeks leading into the PPV, giving fans the impression that anyone could walk away victorious.
Whether it’s Daniel Bryan, Roman Reigns, Bray Wyatt, Dean Ambrose or another wrestler, there is a case to be made for almost every top star entering the match as a viable candidate to walk away victorious.
As much as the ideal storyline would be Bryan returning from injury to win the Royal Rumble and main event WrestleMania again, the WWE has shown confidence in Reigns as a top face and could be ready to pull the trigger on his monumental win.
Despite many members of the WWE Universe not believing he is ready, there is no questioning the reaction Reigns receives every time he hits the ring. If he goes on to win the match and walks away victorious at WrestleMania, fans will have no choice but to look at him as an upper-echelon Superstar.
Predicted Winner: Roman Reigns
Predicting the Triple Threat Championship
While the Royal Rumble match will steal most of the headlines, there is a strong feeling among fans that it may not main event its namesake PPV. The more likely main event will be the Triple Threat match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
Defending champion Brock Lesnar has been booked as one of the most unstoppable forces in wrestling history. After ending The Undertaker’s WrestleMania streak, Lesnar took the title from John Cena in arguably the most lopsided title match in company history.
Now, Lesnar must defend his championship against Cena and The Authority’s hand-chosen star, Seth Rollins. The singles match between Lesnar and Cena didn't have a ton of excitement surrounding it, due to the familiarity, but the inclusion of Rollins has raised the anticipation level exponentially.
The best course of action is giving Lesnar the successful defense and allowing him to go on to WrestleMania to put over the eventual Royal Rumble winner. That would create the most memorable moment and instantly launch whoever beats him into elite company.
Lesnar winning may be the correct move, but WWE has swerved fans in the past. Another viable outcome would be Cena pinning Rollins clean to win the title and being destroyed after the match by a furious Lesnar. After leaving the new 16-time champion lying, Rollins could clean up the pieces and cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase to walk out of Philadelphia with the belt.
As interesting as Rollins walking out with the title would be for the road to WrestleMania, Lesnar is the biggest mainstream draw in the company right now. Allowing him to win at the Royal Rumble and pass the torch to the eventual Battle Royal winner would make for the biggest WrestleMania moment imaginable this year.
Predicted Winner: Brock Lesnar
