Silva:The Modern Day Royce Gracie??? Women; Are You Serious???
Just some thoughts as he we head in to a historical weekend of MMA Sports Fans. For the first time ever women are headlining a major pay per view event. Could this be what Strikeforce needs to catapult them in to the main stream with the U.F.C.???
It's hard to say, personally I love watching the women fight. They never disappoint you coming out swinging seeming to skip the feeling out process altogether...and anyone who thinks these women aren't for real just check out Strikforces Main Event Saturday Night at the HP Pavillion in San Jose featuring Gina Carano vs. Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos.
For anyone who have never watched women you're in for a pleasant surprise, it's not for the faint of heart let me tell you. It isn't some fluffy wrestling bikini match, these are fights contested by highly skilled MMA athletes, and this Saturday two of the best such athletes will be stepping in Strikforces octagon for the Women's 145lb Championship. Women??? Are They Serious???? Yes they are Sports Fans, just look up some Tara LaRosa and or Carina Damm (MMA Barbie) fights you'll be glad you did.
The women are exciting and highly competitive, my question is: When will we see them fighting in the U.F.C.? Now that would be exciting.
Is it just me or does Anderson Silva resemble a modern day Royce Gracie. His looks are not that of a fighter. The quiet soft spoken Brazilian with his easy going smile hardly looks like a man tearing up men larger than himself in a cage on Saturday nights.
Like Gracie in the first U.F.C. A quiet tall lanky Brazilian who looked more suited to Basket Ball or Soccer, steps in to the cage and starts submitting larger guys in short devastating fashion.
Today MMA demands a lot more than great ju-jitsu to be a champion. It takes great stand up, wrestling and most definitely a knowledge of ju-jitsu or other relative sub-mission discipline, and Anderson Silva has embraced these putting together boxing, muay thai, bjj, and wrestling to become the most complete MMA Athlete we've ever seen.
I think he could easily hold both the Middleweight and Light Heavyweight title simultaneously, he may be the only one with the skills to match current Light Heavyweight Champion Lyoto Machida, I don't see too many other guys posing that much of a problem for Silva in the 205 lb division...Anderson is just that good. The bigger the challenge the better he is...
I've got to say Sports Fans...I'm a little Redfaced here...Did I really say I thought Kenny "Kenflo" Florian was going to win by stoppage due to strikes in the 3rd round.???? Congratulations B.J. Penn for making me look foolish.
Penn was dominate throughout the fight winning every round, stunning "Kenflo" in each of the four rounds until finally submitting the game challenger at 3:54 of the fourth round. Kenny just couldn't get past the take down defence of "The Prodigy", and in the end couldn't defend the take down and fell victim to one of the best ground games in the business. Penn in similar fashion to the GSP Alvie's fight, Penn took Florian to school proving once again why he's one of the best in the game at 155 lbs and why he is widely considered one of the best P4P fighters in the world.
So what's next for Forrest Griffin? Forrest is fine Sports Fans...still not clear if his jaw is in fact dislocated or if his pride's a little bruised...one thing is for sure Griffin will be back, and not just because he won T.U.F. Season 1. He'll be back because that's what he does, he's a fighter. Don't stick the fork in Forrest he's not done yet...
That's all for now Sports Fans...
