Randy Orton's WWE Return Should Happen at WWE Fastlane 2015

Alfred KonuwaFeb 8, 2015

Randy Orton returned to action at this weekend's live events. He should be back on WWE television any day now.

In order to maximize the meaning of his long-awaited return, however, WWE is better suited waiting until Fastlane.

WWE Fastlane is two weeks away, and top heel Seth Rollins is still without an opponent. Rollins and Orton are shoo-ins for a WrestleMania program. In Orton's extended absence, Rollins is the odd man out in a crowded No. 1 contender picture.

His feud with both Daniel Bryan and Roman Reigns is a temporary storyline until Orton returns for revenge. Should he return before WWE Fastlane, however, it would almost force a match between the two at the free pay-per-view.

Emanating for the first time, WWE Fastlane is too small of a stage for such a slow-burning grudge match. Rollins grew into more of a main event heel while Orton was away. His performance against Brock Lesnar and John Cena at Royal Rumble elevated him into rarefied air.

Orton's return as an antihero will be welcomed given how cold he was as a heel. An Orton-Rollins feud on paper should be no less than the third-biggest match on the card.

With a big angle beginning with Orton's return at Fastlane, Orton and Rollins will make their rivalry special.

Orton's comeback is also another newsworthy item that can come out of a pay-per-view WWE is giving away to entice potential subscribers.

If Orton returned to television before Fastlane without facing Rollins at the event, their high-profile feud would lose momentum. They would endure that awkward pay-per-view hiccup in which they should be fighting, but WWE is clearly saving it for WrestleMania.

WWE went the past three months without Orton in the picture. With sly mentions of his name in backstage segments to foreshadow his return, WWE can afford to wait another two weeks.
