2015 NHL All-Star Game: Choosing Alternate All-Stars for the New York Rangers
The NHL's All-Star weekend will take place from Friday, January 23 to Sunday, January 25 at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio. Rick Nash will return home to play in the All-Star Game, and he will be the New York Rangers' lone representative for all the festivities.
Nash has had an amazing season, but isn't the only Ranger who has been playing like an All-Star. With that in mind, here are some alternate All-Stars that could have also represented the Blueshirts in Columbus.
Derek Stepan
1 of 4Derek Stepan continues to dazzle and impress this season for the New York Rangers, and he'd likely be an All-Star if he didn't break his fibula earlier this season.
Stepan has appeared in only 31 games to date, but he's played like an elite top-line center for the Rangers who could have easily represented the team in Columbus.
Stepan has scored eight goals and added 24 helpers thus far, and with 32 points in 31 games he is on pace to finish with a points per game average over 1.00 for the first time in his young NHL career. Based on his play thus far into his career, it is safe to say he will be honored as an All-Star at some point down the road.
Derick Brassard
2 of 4The "other" Derick, Derick Brassard, has also had an amazing season to date. Heading into this season, Brassard's career high in points for an entire season was 47. With 38 games left to play this season, Brassard already has 12 goals and 23 assists for 35 points.
The former Columbus Blue Jacket pivot has embraced his new home in New York, and is on pace to finish the 2014-15 campaign with a whopping 66 points. Brassard is finally starting to look like the lottery draft selection he was back in 2006, and the sky is the limit for the remainder of the season.
Martin St. Louis
3 of 4Martin St. Louis is 39 years of age, but is currently eighth in scoring among right wingers in the NHL. Trading for St. Louis was considered a bit of gamble, but he has really paid off for the New York Rangers since joining the team.
This season, St. Louis has 14 goals and 22 assists for 36 points, and that is an amazing stat line when you consider that he is competing against players half his age on a usual basis.
Henrik Lundqvist
4 of 4
Henrik Lundqvist has made a remarkable turnaround after a troubling start to the season that included a string of losses against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Historically, Lundqvist has been one of the best netminders in the NHL, so it is safe to say that his tough start didn't worry the fans too much.
King Henrik has been one of the main reasons the Rangers have soared up the standings, and he's won 14 of his last 16 starts.
So far this season, Lundqvist is 23-9-3 with a 2.25 goals-against average and a .921 save percentage with five shutouts, and no one would have batted an eye if he was Columbus-bound for All-Star weekend.
