Arsenal Transfer News: Carl Jenkinson Price Tag, Rumours on Valencia Double Deal

Tom SunderlandJan 20, 2015

Arsenal have told West Ham United they'll have to pay £12 million in order to sign Carl Jenkinson on permanent terms, while Arsene Wenger is eyeing a double swoop on La Liga giants Valencia this winter.

Jenkinson has showcased inspiring form during his season-long loan at Upton Park thus far, but Hammers boss Sam Allardyce may balk at the estimation placed on his signature, per the Daily Mail's Simon Jones.

The Gunners replaced Bacary Sagna with Mathieu Debuchy and Calum Chambers over the summer, but the club evidently aren't willing to let their England under-21 international leave on the cheap.

With better first-team opportunities in east London, Jenkinson has flourished and is quoted by Jones as recently stating his desire to maintain starting responsibilities:

"

I didn’t want to have another season sitting on the bench. It was starting to drive me up the wall a little bit, I wanted to get out and play football, and I’ve realised that I’m happiest when I’m playing regular football. I didn’t want to go on loan to a team that was just going to kick the ball long. I wanted to go to a team where I was going to learn and improve and I think I’m definitely doing that here at West Ham.

We focus on defending in training and we do a lot of work on one-v-ones and heading and I feel I’ve developed in those areas. He’s [Allarydyce] given me the licence to get forward and express myself. I know what I’m capable of.

"

His success this season has coincided with West Ham's rise through the top-flight ranks, jostling alongside parent club Arsenal in patches for a place among the top four.

Jenkinson's performances have translated on to the international stage, too, as football writer Samuel Jay C posted footage of the 22-year-old scoring for England's under-21s back in November:

West Ham would surely be overjoyed to sign the right-back permanently, but the valuation placed on his head by Arsenal seems an extremely steep one, eclipsing the £1 million they paid Charlton for his services in 2011.

However, the defender may certainly favour the move, considering the competition presented by Debuchy and Chambers makes it difficult to envision Jenkinson emerging as Wenger's first choice upon his return.

Elsewhere, Wenger is hoping to capitalise on Valencia's success thus far in the campaign, with Jose Luis Gaya and Joao Pereira currently in his sights.

According to Fichajes.net (h/t Metro), the Frenchman has told Arsenal to cut a double deal for the defensive duo, which would cost in the region of £35 million.

Nineteen-year-old left-back Gaya is fast rising as one of La Liga's hottest prospects thanks to his rampaging runs down Los Che's flank.

As David Cartlidge of beIN Sports noted during Valencia's recent 3-2 win over Almeria, his forward-thinking mind has been influenced by his past as a more attacking unit:

Pereira, on the other hand, is yet to make an appearance for the club this season, per Squawka, and Valencia may wish to cash in on his signature before his contract expires this summer.

As Jamie Kemp of Inside La Liga states, the player could have departed last summer, while Spanish writer Sergi Dominguez is left oblivious as to why the 30-year-old isn't featuring:

Able to play at right-back and in central defence, the Portuguese veteran seems an ideal fit in terms of the positions Wenger needs covered, with Debuchy's dislocated shoulder limiting his options at full-back.

However, £35 million is a steep fee for the north Londoners to pay in January of all times, with some negotiation likely required before any double coup comes to fruition.
