Fantasy Football: Playing the Name Game

John LorgeAug 10, 2009

Before you can win a title, make trades, or even draft your fantasy football team, you must select a team name.

For some, selecting a name is easy.  They go to their back pocket and use the same name they've been using for years.

That's what I do, the Seattle Seacocks have been an iconic fantasy football franchise since the late '90s.

For some choosing the same name's too boring.  For others it's their first time playing.  And there's always that guy who the league counts on to have a hilarious name year after year.

So how do you choose?

Well it all depends on the statement you are trying to make.

If you are a die-hard fan of a team and you want to let your colors shine through do that, just put your own individual touch on it like the Tallahassee Dolphins or the Gaithersburg Ravens.

You may want to show your team pride by sticking it to your rivals ala Bernard Pollard Part Duex if you're from New York or Who Shot Burress? for you Dallas fans.

Everyone appreciates off the wall too.  Go for Orton Hears a Who, Romo Witten His Pants, Bros Before Shiancoes, or White Cassell if you want to play off a players name.

Of course fantasy football players are not above the crude or obscene.  For you folks try out Strokin' My Ditka, Off Constantly (let that one sink in), Breaston My Face, or Mark's Dirty Sanchez.

Some will change their name every week so there's no real limit to the amount of monikers your team can own in a season.

Let me know what your fantasy football team name is!
