Friday, Jan. 23

Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports that Vogelsong has a deal with the Giants:

Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reported on Thursday that the Giants may be close to a one-year deal with Vogelsong. Schulman added the following details:

"

The Giants are working toward a one-year deal to bring starter Ryan Vogelsong back to San Francisco, according to a major-league source, a stunning development after he appeared ready to sign with the Astros.

The talks are advanced and could be resolved by the weekend.

"

Astros Remain in Running for Vogelsong

Thursday, Jan. 22

Jerry Crasnick of ESPN reported on Thursday that the Astros hadn't been ruled out of the running to land Vogelsong:

On Wednesday, Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports reported that a deal between the Astros and free-agent Ryan Vogelsong wouldn't be happening.

On Jan. 20, Jerry Crasnick of ESPN reported that the Astros were nearing a deal with Vogelsong.

Rosenthal reported that the Astros were aggressively pursuing Vogelsong on Jan. 19.

Vogelsong's Agent Confirms Talks With Giants

Wednesday, Jan. 21

Ryan Vogelsong could end up with the San Francisco Giants once again according to Chris Haft of MLB.com:

"

When contacted recently, Vogelsong's agent, Dave Meier, said that he has maintained talks with the Giants on his client's behalf, even while the free agent has been mentioned as a potential fit for rotation openings in Houston, Arizona and Philadelphia.

"

Ken Rosenthal reported the talks are "serious".

Rockies, Rangers Linked to Vogelsong

Monday, Jan. 19

On Jan. 11, Jon Morosi of Fox Sports reported that the Colorado Rockies were on the trail:

A week later, ESPN's Jim Bowden mentioned the Texas Rangers as a possible destination:

Vogelsong went 8-13 in 2014 with a 4.00 earned-run average with the San Francisco Giants. In his 10-year career, he has a record of 49-57 and an ERA of 4.42.

Injuries and poor performance blighted Vogelsong's early time in the league, but since arriving in San Francisco in 2011, he's been a solid back-of-the-rotation guy. He also has plenty of postseason experience, having helped the Giants win two World Series titles.

Although he lacks the cachet of a Max Scherzer or James Shields, Vogelsong is a proven commodity in the league. In what is a weak free-agent class, he'd be a nice addition for somebody looking to add a No. 4 or 5 starter.
