Report: Updates on Planned Surprise Entrants for the Royal Rumble
One thing is for sure: The annual 30-man Royal Rumble would lose a great deal of its drama and luster without all the surprise entrants thrown out there every year.
The unexpected, unpredictable part of the show has long been part of the pay-per-view's enduring appeal.
John Cena's spectacular, wholly unannounced return at the 2008 Rumble springs to mind. People still talk about that swerve to this day.

Names such as Mr. Perfect, Kharma, Roddy Piper, Honky Tonk Man and Diesel have also unexpectedly popped up over the years. These cameos were mostly played for laughs, although Kevin Nash did manage to parlay his return in 2011 into a long-term gig and even feuded with CM Punk for a while.
Even actor and B-list celebrity Drew Carey had a go at it in 2001. But let's not dwell on that one.
According to PWInsider (via WrestlingInc), this year's event will be no different, with Bo Dallas, currently out with an injury, and WCW veteran and yoga expert Diamond Dallas Page tentatively penciled in to make appearances at Philadelphia's Wells Fargo Center on Sunday:
"WWE's current plan is for Bo Dallas to make his return in the 30-man Royal Rumble main event later this month.
It was announced on November 3rd that Bo suffered a foot injury and would be out of action for 6-8 weeks.
There's also been a heavy push within WWE for Diamond Dallas Page to be a surprise entrant in the Rumble this year and he's expected to be in the match.
"
It's hard to see anyone getting terribly worked up about Bo Dallas' return. His WWE career thus far hasn't really panned out. It's doubtful whether anyone even missed him while he was gone.

Page, however, is another matter. It would be great fun to see the WCW icon in the ring again, provided his contributions were limited and kept short—at his age, it might not be too smart to keep him in there for too long.
