Ravens Kick Off OC Search
Monday, Jan. 19
With Gary Kubiak departing the Baltimore Ravens to take the head coaching job with the Denver Broncos, per the Broncos' official site, coach John Harbaugh is now tasked with finding a replacement who can build upon what the Ravens offense accomplished in 2014 and one whose philosophy fits with the personnel already in place.
Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports believes one man who would fit is former Buffalo Bills head coach Doug Marrone:
However, Ian Rapoport of NFL.com is hearing that another hot name could wind up in Baltimore:
Rapoport later noted the specifics of Baltimore's interview with Gase:
And don't rule out Marc Trestman either. According to Jamison Hensley of ESPN.com, Trestman "will get a strong recommendation from Jim Harbaugh, who said Trestman 'taught me everything' when they were with the Oakland Raiders' staff 12 years ago."
A brother's recommendation can go a long way after all.
Replacing Kubiak won't be easy. His stretch-zone running philosophy fit Baltimore's personnel perfectly and helped the team finish eighth in rushing yards per game this season. It also did wonders for Joe Flacco, per ESPN Stats & Info:
Still, the Ravens have a solid group in place on the offensive side of the ball and a team accustomed to reaching the postseason, making their offensive coordinator gig an enticing one.
It would be surprising if it wasn't filled by a big-name candidate rather quickly. Based on the early buzz, it appears there won't be a shortage of options.
