The St. Louis Rams have named quarterbacks coach Frank Cignetti as offensive coordinator.

Continue for updates.

Rams Name Cignetti OC

Thursday, Feb. 12

The Rams announced that Frank Cignetti was named offensive coordinator on Thursday:

The Rams’ search for an offensive coordinator has come to an end, as the franchise has promoted two of its offensive assistants. Quarterbacks coach Frank Cignetti will take over as the offensive coordinator, and tight ends coach Rob Boras will serve as assistant head coach/offense.

Albert Breer of NFL.com broke down the new structure of the team's coaching staff:

Rams name QBs coach Frank Cignetti offensive coordinator, TEs coach Rob Boras asst HC/offense. Cignetti calls play. Boras runs the run game.

On Feb. 5, Ian Rapoport of NFL.com first reported the news that Cignetti would get the job next week.

Chris Mortensen of ESPN reported Jeff Garcia will interview for the vacant quarterbacks coaching position in St. Louis.

The reported move is a bit of a surprise; on Jan. 29, Jim Thomas of STLToday.com reported that tight ends coach Rob Boras was "probably the front-runner" compared to Cignetti, as the team is likely to hire from within the organization.

On Jan. 27, Alex Marvez of Fox Sports first reported Cignetti and Boras were likely internal candidates.

Hackett Pulls Out of Rams OC Search

Wednesday, Jan. 28

Nathaniel Hackett will not be the next Rams offensive coordinator, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network:

Nathaniel Hackett is heading to Jax, believed to be taking #Jaguars QB coach job, source said. Pulled out of Rams OC search to take it.

On Jan. 26, CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reported that Hackett was set to interview for the Rams' offensive coordinator vacancy for the second time.

Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch originally reported on Monday, Jan. 12, that Hackett was on the radar for the position.

Colts Hire Chudzinski as Associate Head Coach

Tuesday, Jan. 27

Rob Chudzinski has been ruled out as a potential offensive coordinator in St. Louis, after he was named Colts associate head coach, according to a team announcement on Tuesday:

The Indianapolis Colts and Rob Chudzinski have agreed to a new contract naming him Associate Head Coach.

“We’re excited to keep Chud in our family,” said Head Coach Chuck Pagano. “He’s been a critical part of our operation and we’re looking forward to sharing even more success in the future.”

Chudzinski has been one of the team's top targets for some time now; on Jan. 25, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the team was interested in interviewing him when his contract in Indianapolis ended.

On Jan. 21, Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported that the team had been denied an opportunity to interview Chudzinski. The team's initial interest was reported by Ian Rapoport of NFL.com on Jan. 19.

Rams Denied Interview Permission for Van Pelt

Wednesday, Jan 21

According to Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the Rams were denied permission to interview Packers quarterback coach Alex van Pelt:

The Rams' ongoing offensive coordinator search hit a couple of roadblocks Tuesday with both the Green Bay Packers and Indianapolis Colts denying them permission to interview potential candidates.

Green Bay denied permission for the Rams to interview quarterbacks coach Alex Van Pelt.

The Rams still would like to speak to former Denver offensive coordinator Adam Gase, but he is interviewing in Chicago today. Another potential candidate, Greg Olson, looks to be in line to take the Jacksonville OC job.

Under NFL rules, the only instance where a team cannot deny permission is for a head-coaching job.

Rams Begin OC Search

Monday, Jan. 19

St. Louis Rams head coach Jeff Fisher's wide-ranging search to find his next offensive coordinator will include Packers quarterback coach Alex van Pelt, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport:

Ian Rapoport @RapSheet

The #Rams also sent in a request to speak with #Packers QB coach Alex Van Pelt for their OC opening, source said.

The Rams are looking for a new offensive coordinator after Brian Schottenheimer left his post to take the same position at the University of Georgia. Schottenheimer was Fisher's offensive coordinator for his first three seasons in St. Louis but struggled to develop a consistent offense.

Former Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Adam Gase and former Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett are also candidates for the position, per ESPN's Adam Schefter and Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Rapoport indicated Gase, who was a head coaching candidate for multiple vacancies, is more likely to land in Baltimore or Jacksonville.

The Rams finished 27th in Football Outsiders' offensive DVOA rankings this season.
