Juventus Transfer News and Rumours Tracker: Week of January 19

Adam DigbyJan 19, 2015

As we enter the penultimate week before the January transfer window slams shut, clubs across Europe are working hard to complete their squads for the second half of the season. Once the deadline passes, there remains little else directors can do, which often leads to panic buys during the last few days of the month.

Juventus appear to be remaining calm, however, with Massimiliano Allegri insisting that they will only sign players who match the quality found among their current group of players. “We need some reinforcements to complete this squad,” the coach told Rai Sport last week, as he noted the injuries to Kwadwo Asamoah and Romulo (h/t Football Italia).

Yet Allegri clearly believes in those already at his disposal, going on to say that “if we don’t find replacements up to their standard, then it’s only right to let our youngsters develop and play.” While that bodes well for the likes of Federico Mattiello and Filippo Romagna, it remains to be seen how it will affect the club’s activity in the transfer market.

Over the following pages is a look at the news, rumours and speculation surrounding Juventus and their potential targets, updated daily to keep you fully informed.

Having already agreed to join Toronto FC on July 1, representatives of Sebastian Giovinco are now believed to be working to bring that date forward. Writing on his own website, Gianluca Di Marzio reports that the player's agent Andrea D'Amico will meet with Juventus to negotiate an early release.

However, Tim Bezbatchenko—general manager of the MLS side— told Sportsnet 590 The FAN on Wednesday that he has not spoken to anyone about a possible January move for Giovinco.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan a Good Fit for Juventus

4 of 12

Having previously coached the player, Mircea Lucescu admits he would not be shocked to see Borussia Dortmund’s Henrikh Mkhitaryan move to Juventus. The Shakhtar Donetsk coach believes he would be more suitable than Wesley Sneijder, telling Tuttosport (h/t Football Italia):

I wouldn’t be surprised to see him at Juve. He’s a guy who needs to feel loved and Dortmund have put him under too much pressure. I think his time at Borussia is over.

I could easily see him playing behind Llorente and Tevez, or indeed any great champions. Mkhitaryan is quicker and a more willing runner than Sneijder. Henrikh is a complete player, he creates, wins the ball and counter attacks. Now he has to find the right environment.

Stevan Jovetic Uninterested in Manchester City

5 of 12

Despite rumours linking him with Juventus, Stevan Jovetic insists he has no interest in an exit from Manchester City. “I never wanted to go,” the striker told Sky Sports. “I have a lot more to show and a lot more goals to score!”

Nothing to Suggest Paul Pogba Exit

6 of 12

Juve director general Beppe Marotta has discussed the speculation linking Paul Pogba with a move away from the Turin club. Speaking to Sky Italia ahead of Sunday’s meeting with Hellas Verona, Marotta said (h/t Football Italia):

"

Pogba is sought-after, but he has resisted and will try to resist. Our intention is to buy important players and not sell them. As of today, there is nothing to suggest Pogba will go to another club, but we cannot compete with the wages that are being proposed.

We have certain financial goalposts. Paris Saint-Germain? No, there hasn’t been any contact.

"

Meanwhile, Carlo Ancelotti has denied his club Real Madrid intend to sign Paul Pogba, despite rumours linking the Juventus midfielder with the European champions. “Pogba has the ability to play anywhere, but not for Real Madrid,” the coach told Sky Italia (h/t Football Italia). “Why not? Because at the moment we’re not interested in him.”

Toronto FC Confirm Sebastian Giovinco Deal

7 of 12

Wesley Sneijder Move to Juventus Impossible

8 of 12

The agent of Wesley Sneijder says a move to Juventus is difficult to imagine, revealing Galatasaray have refused to allow the midfielder to leave. ‘It’s nearly impossible to bring Sneijder to Turin, I can’t see it happening,” his representative Guido Albers told Tuttosport (h/t Forza Italian Football). “The Galatasaray officials have been perfectly clear with me. He would have been happy to return to Italy but only if the club had wanted to sell.”

No Lies from Carlos Tevez About His Future

9 of 12

Carlos Tevez insists that he will not lie to Juventus supporters about his future. The striker’s contract with the Bianconeri ends in June 2016, and he has long been linked with a move back to Boca Jumiors.

“The rumours about my future make me laugh,” Tevez told Mediaset Premium this weekend (h/t Forza Italian Football). He continued:

"

I do not read newspapers or watch television to see what is being said, though. I still have a lot of time here.

There is a year-and-a-half left on my current deal. Am I not going to renew? That decision is not yet final, I will not lie to the fans and say I will or will not stay. My mind can change, I have more than a year left here and I am very happy.

Tottenham Meet Sassuolo to Discuss Simone Zaza

10 of 12

It has been reported that Tottenham Hotspur have met with Sassuolo to discuss a possible move for Simone Zaza. Writing on his website, Gianluca Di Marzio, translated by David Amoyal, notes that the Neroverdi reported the interest of the Premier League side to Juventus, who retain a buy-back option on the 23-year-old striker.

As such, the Bianconeri would have first refusal on the player—whom Sassuolo wish to keep until the summer—making a move to England highly unlikely.

Martin Montoya Still Wants to Leave Barcelona

11 of 12

The agent of Martin Montoya says that, despite increased playing time recently, the 23-year-old still wants to leave Barcelona. Linked with a move to Juventus last month, his representative, Juan Dios Carrasco, spoke to Cope, telling them (h/t Football Italia):
