Tiger Sets a Number of Records Again with Fifth Win of the Season

Thomas MorelandAug 9, 2009

It was another Tiger Woods moment at the 16th hole of Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone.

Padraig Harrington held a one shot lead on the tee at 16. Both players drive went in the rough, and both chipped out to the fairway. setting up a third shot to the par five.

Tiger Woods addressed the ball, standing 182 yards from the pin, over water to a tightly placed pin, near the front of the hazard.

He then nuked an eight iron straight up into the stratosphere, landing the ball behind the pin, where it spun back to within 18 inches.

Meanwhile, Harrington then fired his 8 iron into the rough behind the hole. His next shot bounced downhill on the green and then into the hazard. A triple bogie later, Tiger was up by three with two holes to play.

Needless to say, Tiger Woods won his 70th PGA event at age 33, the youngest player. of course to ever do this, joining Sam Snead, and Jack Nicklaus, who did this at ages 44 and 40.

Tiger Woods also became the first player to ever win seven times at the same event.

He has five victories this season, two in a row leading into the PGA Championship. where he has won five times.

I kind of feel sorry for the rest of the players at this point.

Your PGA player of the year will be Tiger Woods again this season, and i guess you can throw in comeback of the year as well. after major knee surgery.

My fantasy golf team has no hope, as I have already used Tiger Woods 10 times, and am not allowed to use him any further this season.

So, with the PGA Championship at Hazeltine this coming week, here are my selections, as I hope someone can step up, but it's doubtful.

My fantasy team did however, hang in there last week, keeping me at position number 12,891 in the 93rd percentile for the full, season.

With a good week, I may pass up some of the Yahoo experts once more. Here are my picks for the PGA Championship.

I was impressed by a couple of international players this last couple of weeks so my A player will be Kenny Perry, but i will use Miguel Angel Jimenez and Angel Cabrera for my B players. My C player will be Retief Goosen.

On the bench to bring in as subs with a hot round , and maybe high on the leader board will be Geoff Ogilvy. Rory McElroy, Graeme McDowell, and Ian Poulter.

Good luck to anyone not named Tiger Woods, you'll need plenty. As for Tiger, he has plenty of skill to win this major.

Dear Jack Nicklaus, enjoy being the best for just a little while longer, but Tiger Woods is coming for your 74 tour victories, and your 18 majors. Sam Snead, by the way has 88 tour wins, which will also fall to Tiger Woods eventually.

Have a great week and enjoy the PGA at Hazeltine. folks.
