Arsenal Transfer News: Top Rumours as Gunners Plot Important January Deals

Tom SunderlandJan 17, 2015

An urgency has been placed upon Arsenal to complete some serious winter business, with the latest speculation surrounding the club linking Marcelo Brozovic and Edinson Cavani with potential moves.

The Gunners have been buoyed in their pursuit of Brozovic, whose agent, Miroslav Bicanic, has been quoted by Peter O'Rourke of Goal.com as proclaiming that his client is hopeful of sealing the switch from Dinamo Zagreb:

"

We are talking to several clubs, although there is nothing concrete at this moment. We know of Arsenal's interest, but there is nothing agreed. At this moment Marcelo is with Dinamo and everything depends on Dinamo.

They have to agree a price with a club and then we can hold talks. Of course Marcelo would be interested in playing in the Premier League with a club such as Arsenal. We hope he can change clubs and come to England as it is one of the best leagues in the world, but the decision depends on Dinamo.

The report states that Arsenal are weighing up a £6 million (€7.8 million) bid for the creative midfielder, having been engaged in talks with Dinamo "since October."

Following the signing of Legia Warsaw's Krystian Bielik, Brozovic would only add further to Arsene Wenger's options in the middle of the park, but David Amoyal of GianlucaDiMarzio.com confirmed Arsenal face competition:

Regarded as a promising playmaking prospect, Brozovic signed a seven-year deal with Dinamo in 2012, meaning the club are under no immediate pressure to sell their 22-year-old asset.

However, his agent's comments could be the beginning of a process which sees him begin to engineer his move away from his native land, evidently intrigued by the offers circling.

The Emirates Stadium has been calling out for defensive signings, and even though Bielik's arrival sees them strengthen in the engine room, Brozovic would perhaps be another luxury for the Gunners.

Bleacher Report's James McNicholas recently discussed Cruzeiro's Lucas Silva and other targets who have been associated with an Arsenal switch:

Another luxury signing for the north Londoners would be Paris Saint-Germain's Cavani, who could leave the Parisian giants this year so that they can fall within the regulations of Financial Fair Play.

Cavani, along with team-mate Ezequiel Lavezzi, missed PSG's midseason training camp in Morocco and were late returning for training this winter, leading to club-imposed bans. Manager Laurent Blanc told Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo (h/t Joe Short of the Express):

"There will certainly be exits out of PSG in the winter market. Nothing is forgotten. They are two important players, we did what we had to do. They must accept their stupidity."

Cavani has maintained his place as an important member of PSG's attack despite the transfer rumours long linking him with an exit from the club, but this display of indiscipline may please his suitors.

Jonathan Johnson of B/R UK said his future may depend on whether or not Blanc retains his place at the PSG helm:

With Olivier Giroud fighting to reestablish his finest form and last summer's signing Danny Welbeck still finding his feet in the capital, a striker may not rest as Arsenal's highest priority in the opinion of some.

However, should Cavani's recent defiance suggest he's unhappy in the French capital, the Gunners could be among those to jump at his availability.

PSG's overturn of players in recent years has been swift and should they feel they can conduct superior business by selling the Uruguayan, they too may open up to the idea of his departure.

However, it would take a quick turnaround of business in order for the former Palermo and Napoli star to be replaced this winter, meaning any move is more likely to come about this summer, if at all.
