Bears Begin DC Search
Friday, Jan. 16
With a new head coach in place, the Chicago Bears are reportedly setting their sights on a new defensive coordinator.
Earlier on Friday, the Bears officially announced John Fox as Marc Trestman's replacement. That move looks to be the final nail in the coffin for the team's current defensive coordinator, Mel Tucker. Tucker has been on the way out for the past month or so, and now that Fox is officially in charge, an alternative can be found.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that Chicago was looking to interview Vic Fangio:
Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com reported yesterday that the San Francisco 49ers released Fangio from his deal.
Another name in contention is Dennis Allen. CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reported that the former Oakland Raiders head coach may be a serious candidate:
As a franchise, the Bears have always been synonymous with tough defenses, but the last two years have seen Chicago rank 30th in yards allowed. It's clear that the team is looking for a change.
Between Fox's defensive expertise and a new defensive coordinator almost certainly on the way, the Bears may be in a line for a big turnaround on that side of the ball in 2015.
