HE KNOCKED THE SMILE RIGHT OFF OF HIS FACE!!!!!

The Truth TurcottAug 9, 2009

Anderson "The Spider" Silva is the Roy Jones Jr. of MMA Sports Fans. He is stunningly fast and incredibly elusive. In less than five minutes (3:23) of the first round to be exact, he laid the always game Forrest Griffin down to sleep...I'm sorry to say Sports Fans but Forrest just didn't look like he belonged in the Octagon with the "The Spider."

Forrest Griffin came in to the fight as an underdog and left the fight looking like a whipped dog. Silva beat him to the punch, kick, and feint through out their short clash even offering to help Griffin up off of the canvas at one point, shortly before putting Forrest on the canvas again for the final time.

"This is a different kind of striker," Joe Rogan said the first time U.F.C. fans got to see Anderson Silva step in to the octagon with then champion Rich Franklin, Chris Leban was a destructive knock out highlight reel fight, a tune-up to showcase Silva's skills. Rich Franklin on the other hand was a legitimate fighter and reigning champion suffering annihilation at the hands of the Brazilian. Twice.

Since then Anderson has taken on everyone in the division with out breaking a sweat. I think the argument of who the best Pound for Pound fighter in the world may very well have been answered last night in Philadelphia.

My argument would have been earlier that an Anderson Silva vs. George St. Pierre fight might be needed to solve that constant nagging question of who the best all around fighter is. Now I'm not so sure. Skill wise I'm almost certain GSP could hang with Silva...almost.

George St. Pierre posesses great strength, wrestling, and Tae Kwon do, and on paper looks like the best possible match up for Silva, but is he strong enough? With similar builds and styles, George is the smaller man and that could be the difference, that and have we seen all that Silva can be yet? That is the big question Sports Fans.

Anderson Silva is so good at his game that he nullifies his opponents skills. last night he even nullified Griffins patented smile, a first in the U.F.C. I believe. What else can one say about Anderson Silva?

GSP may be the only man in the U.F.C. with enough skill to match the lanky Brazilian Middleweight Champion. There's no questioning the heart of the French Canadian, he has plenty of that. No problem. Is he strong enough?

All I can say Sports Fans is the U.F.C. has their work cut out for them in finding a challenger to step up and relieve Anderson of his title or his unbeaten streak currently at a U.F.C. high of 10 and counting.

They may need a G.P.S. to scour the landscape to find a worthy opponent for Silva, or start looking at other promotions and movie sets. Cung Le comes to mind although I honestly don't believe he would stand much of a chance with Silva, a great striker but not in the same league as "The Spider". One possible match up that would definitely challenge Silva's unbeaten streak and ability  might be Lyoto Machida.

Could the U.F.C. have it's first legitimate Dual Weight class Champion on their hands? I think so Sports Fans. Machida is a great striker and has world class take down defence on his side and quick powerful hands. He may very well have the skill and the strength to test Silva, but like so many others I believe he would succumb to the vast array of skills possessed by "The Spider".

Personally I'd like to see the U.F.C. challenge the less skilled over hyped Fedor "The Last Emperor" Emelianenko to a catch weight bout set at 210 lbs-220lbs. Split the fight right down the middle, promotion, card, and purse for the main event. Everybody wins, the fans, the promotions, MMA, the only loser in this event would be the guy who lost the catch weight fight...Fedor...sorry Sports Fans but I've got to go out on the limb here and say, "Anderson "The Spider" Silva is without a doubt the best Pound for Pound fighter in the world." Oh you know it's true...that's all Sports Fans.
