Whether they're a superstar or just a role player, there's no denying that some of the most unique and entertaining athletes get a lot of love from fans.

From weird pregame routines, funny comments on social media or press conferences showing they have quite the personality, some players prove that they're really comfortable in their own skin.

But who are some of the strangest and most entertaining in sports right now? Here are a few athletes who deserve an award for their quirky behavior.

Darnell Dockett

He's one of the most intimidating players in the NFL right now, but Arizona Cardinals three-time Pro Bowl defensive lineman Darnell Dockett also happens to be one of the most entertaining athletes around, too.

Dockett proves that by the crazy things that he posts on his social media pages, which often have some ridiculous sayings or pictures that, while lighthearted, are interesting to say the least.

Once saying that he could have scored Cincinnati Bengals' backup quarterback A.J. McCarron's now-wife, Katherine Webb, Dockett has repeatedly dug at the two.

Newly acquired Cleveland Cavaliers guard J.R. Smith has always been a solid player, and I'm not just referring to his shooting skills on the basketball court.

Sure, Smith has a sweet stroke that leads to him knocking down jumpers with ease, but he also knows how to score with the ladies.

Look no further than his high school yearbook quote, which had Smith quoted as saying, "Get chicks or die trying," showing that he knew that dropping buckets on opposing teams would probably help in the the female department, too.

In addition to that, Smith always seems to give memorable quotes and plays with a recklessness that other players tend to shy away from.

Rob Gronkowski

It's actually been a pretty quiet season for New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski off the field, who has somehow avoided making headlines for his partying ways.

Still, after admitting that he has an eight-seat party bus in a recent Sports Illustrated article, it's the same old Gronk we've all come to love.

Known for being involved with porn stars, dancing like no one is watching—no matter the situation—and enjoying the company of other players like Johnny Manziel, Gronkowski is the definition of an entertainer.

J.J. Watt

There's no denying that Houston Texans defensive lineman J.J. Watt is the best defender in the entire NFL, playing with a gear that most players could only dream of.

Hell, the guy even catches touchdown passes if he's asked to play offense. How dope is that?

And while Watt isn't a crazy animal like others on this list, his entertainment comes from that extra gear I mentioned, playing with reckless abandon, sharing some interesting sack celebrations and hilarious trash talk when mic'd up.

Of course, my favorite was the one he did following a takedown of Tennessee Titans quarterback Zach Mettenberger, with Watt taking an air selfie of himself to mock the rookie, who had a penchant of turning the camera on himself this season.

Yasiel Puig

Much like former big leaguer Manny Ramirez, Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig has quite the interesting story.

After defecting from Cuba in 2011, he was taken in by Mexican drug cartels, which alone makes him one of the most interesting athletes in sports.

A freak of nature with speed, power and a big personality, Puig burst onto the scene in the hottest city for entertainment, making questionable decisions thanks to his newfound fame.

Sure, he can be a bit of loose cannon, but isn't that why so many are intrigued by the 24-year-old?

Italian national team and Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli has slowed his roll a bit in the past year or so, but make no mistake—he's always due for producing a memorable moment.

Over the years, Super Mario has had legendary stories that are near-impossible to believe, with his former teammate, Sergio Aguero, detailing just how wild it was to play with the 24-year-old.

He may not get as much recognition in the United States because he plays across the pond, but Balotelli has notoriously been one of the most most entertaining athletes on the planet.

JaVale McGee

If there's one athlete who has defined the word goofy, it's Denver Nuggets big man JaVale McGee, who has taken over the title as the funniest basketball player.

While his on-court fails have been well-documented—he's a regular on Shaqtin' a Fool—McGee doesn't do himself any favors to be taken seriously by the stuff he posts on his social media pages, often showing him in hilarious situations that a man of his stature usually avoids.

I won't go as far to say that Dallas Stars center Tyler Seguin is the NHL's version of Johnny Manziel, but there are some similar characteristics.

While Seguin has toned down his partying ways—something that Johnny Football hasn't figured out yet—the 22-year-old is still entertaining as hell, proving that he has a sense of humor and a personality that's infectious.

Enjoying a breakout season where he's second in the league in total points (as of the end of play on January 18th), Seguin has found a solid balance between being the center of attention and being the best player on the ice most nights.

But one look at his Twitter or Instagram accounts, and it's clear that he's still having a lot of fun—it's just not as rowdy as it once was.

What can I say about Los Angeles Lakers guard Nick Young that hasn't already been mentioned before?

Honestly, it's like A-Rod is on a sinking ship that he refuses to abandon, with new details coming out about previous PED use that led to his 162-game suspension in 2014.

In his prime, Rodriguez was the most talented player in the game. Since his skills have diminished, it's all about hearing another story about the guy for fans to sort of smirk at (like the rumored baseball with his phone number on it and the painting of him as a centaur in his apartment).

Alex Rodriguez is like that soap opera you hate to admit is a guilty pleasure, unable to turn away.
