Jaguars Reportedly Hiring Greg Olson as OC

Wednesday, Jan. 21

Ryan O'Halloran of the Florida Times-Union reported that Olson is being hired by the Jags:

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reported on Tuesday that Olson would be hired as the Jaguars' offensive coordinator.

O'Halloran reported on Tuesday that a deal would likely be completed Wednesday.

Ian Rapoport of NFL.com previously reported Adam Gase had a strong chance of landing in Jacksonville.

Rapoport, (via Conor Orr of NFL.com) previously reported that the Jaguars have requested an interview with Adam Gase for their offensive coordinator job, though the Rams are interested in him as well:

Hackett to Interview for OC Job

Ryan O'Halloran of the Florida Times-Union reported that former Bills assistant coach Nathaniel Hackett is set to interview in Jacksonville:

The Jaguars’ offensive coordinator search is continuing today with an interview with ex-Buffalo offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett.

Hackett, who served as Doug Marrone’s play-caller at Syracuse and then the last two years with the Bills, is available after new Bills coach Rex Ryan hired Greg Roman as his offensive coordinator earlier this week.

Olson Among Jaguars' OC Candidates

The Jacksonville Jaguars' search for a new offensive coordinator is starting to heat up as the organization continues to look for someone who can put quarterback Blake Bortles in position to succeed.   

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Oakland Raiders offensive coordinator Greg Olson is next up for an interview:

Olson served as the Jags' assistant head coach and quarterbacks coach in 2012. In addition to that, as Rapoport alluded to, he had success in Oakland last year in terms of helping rookie quarterback Derek Carr become a competent NFL signal-caller:

That is certainly attractive to the Jaguars considering the fact that Bortles struggled in his debut season.

Following Bortles' subpar campaign, Jacksonville fired offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch. Per ESPN.com's Michael DiRocco, head coach Gus Bradley wasn't a fan of Fisch's approach with his rookie quarterback:

There is a lot of truth now to philosophical differences as far as we want to put on Blake's plate to do a lot. Let's throw a lot at him and then let's see how much he'll be able to carry that over to next year. Or, no, let's not put a lot on his plate and let him grow through this. Which way is best? I don't know. I know the way we kind of want to do it.

"

In addition to Olson, the Jaguars are courting other potential candidates as well. According to Rapoport, Jacksonville is eyeing Minnesota Vikings running backs coach Kirby Wilson and New York Jets running backs coach Anthony Lynn:

DiRocco mentions former Bills head coach Doug Marrone as another candidate the team is considering for Fisch's replacement.

Also, ESPN's Adam Schefter is reporting that the Jags are hoping to interview Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Bill Callahan for the same position:

Jacksonville's offensive coordinator vacancy may not be the most enticing job since they finished last in scoring and 31st in yardage last season, but there is definitely some talent to work with and long-term potential.

Developing Bortles is the most important thing, and there is no question that the Jags will focus heavily on that when making their decision.
