IT AINT WHO KNOW ITS JULIO!!!
Its the beginning of August and the Tide is back to work getting ready for the 2009 season or better yet Julio part two. Last Alabama freshman wide receiver Julio Jones came to Alabama with fanfare than probably any other player in the history of Alabama. Jones was already superstar in the State from his playing days at Foley, however rolling with the Tide, made him the Obama of the State of Alabama. Heck he was so popular he probably could have said he was going to run for governor after he signed and he would have won in a landslide. All of this was before he even put on a Crimson jersey.
In his freshman year Julio not only lived up to the hype he merely grew his legend. He caught 58 passes for 924 yards averaged 15.9 yards per catch and scored four touchdowns. As good as that was it could have been better, considering he played HURT the whole year. In his first media interview with the media yesterday he told reporters that he played with a banged up shoulder, wrist, and a sports hernia. So its safe to say that he was probably only 80% the whole season, scary huh.
Going into the 2009 season Jones is 100% and primed for even bigger and better things. Coach Saban said that they were going to move him around more to try and get him involved in the offense more this season. This means that look for Jones to have more touches and more chances to cause opposing defensive coordinators some sleepless nights. With a rebuilt line, and a first year starter at quarterback, Jones will play a major role in the success of the Tides offense this season.
My prediciotn for Jones this season is somwher around 65 catches, 1,100 yards receving and probaly 6 or seven touchdowns. Jones will merely become a first team All-American, but might also become a Blitenknoff finalst. Thus look for 2009 to be the year of Julio, and set himself for the heisman campaign to come in 2010.
