Denver Nuggets Trade Arron Afflalo to Portland Trail Blazers

The Denver Nuggets have failed to make any noise in the Western Conference this season, leading productive players like Arron Afflalo to draw trade interest from around the league. On Thursday, Denver traded Afflalo to the Portland Trail Blazers.

Afflalo Traded to Portland

Thursday, Feb. 19

Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski reported on Thursday that the Nuggets have traded Afflalo to the Trail Blazers. 

Per Wojnarowski, the "Blazers will send Will Barton, Victor Claver, a future lottery protected 1st and a second-round pick to Denver for Afflalo and Alonzo Gee."

Portland later confirmed the move, and president of basketball operations Neil Olshey provided a statement via the team's official site:

Nuggets Reportedly Asking First and Second-Round Picks for Afflalo

ESPN's Marc Stein reported that the Nuggets are asking for both a first and a second round pick for Afflalo. 

On Feb. 18, Stein reported that the team was demanding at least a first round pick, and who was the most likely team to give it to them:

Wojnarowski reported that Denver is currently sifting offers with some "late chargers" adding themselves to the mix along with Portland.

Kings, Clippers Reportedly Pursuing Afflalo

Tuesday, Feb. 17

Bucher reported on Tuesday that Sacramento is "trying to reunite" Afflalo with new head coach George Karl.

Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports reported that the Clippers are also interested in acquiring Afflalo:

Nevertheless, the Clippers have probed the market with Jamal Crawford to see if there's a way to acquire a first-round pick that could help them make a competitive offer to Denver for Wilson Chandler or Arron Afflalo, league sources said.

Wojnarowski went on to report that the Trail Blazers were more interested in teammate Wilson Chandler than Afflalo.

Several Teams Interested in Trade for Afflalo

Monday, Feb. 16

Shelburne reported "no serious talks yet for Arron Afflalo, but word is OKC, Kings, Bulls, Clippers have discussed. Would be an interesting add for a contender."

On Feb. 10, Shelburne reported that the Trail Blazers, Bulls, Clippers, Heat and Kings have all discussed an Afflalo trade. Shelburne also noted that his player option for next season makes a first-round pick a tall asking price.

Arron Afflalo, Randy Foye Drawing Trade Interest

Tuesday, Jan. 14

According to ESPN.com's Brian Windhorst, both Afflalo and guard Randy Foye are receiving a great deal of interest from across the NBA.

Inquiries the 29-year-old Afflalo aren't particularly surprising considering his impressive consistency. The former Detroit Pistons and Orlando Magic star is having a strong campaign in his second stint with the Nuggets.

He is on pace to average better than 15 points per game for the fourth consecutive season, while also chipping in 3.5 rebounds and 1.5 three-point field goals made per contest as well. On top of that, the UCLA alum is among the best perimeter defenders in the league.

Per ESPN.com's Ramona Shelburne, the Nuggets will continue to field plenty of calls since they have so many useful players potentially on the block.

Shelburne is also reporting that no less than three teams are in pursuit of Afflalo:

Afflalo is certainly among Denver's best players, but the team appears content to retool considering its current spot in the standings. Having already dealt center Timofey Mozgov and point guard Nate Robinson, Afflalo could be next.

He has a $7.75 million player option next season before becoming a free agent, per HoopsHype.com, and the Nuggets may prefer to get him off the books immediately.

If that is the case, then some team figures to land an extremely useful player who can most definitely play a big role in a winning cause.
