Sports Stars Acting Crazy off the Court

Laura DeptaJan 14, 2015

It’s always fun to watch superstar athletes showing off their less serious sides. I mean, who wouldn’t want to see James Harden attempt the Carlton Dance?

Obviously the word “hilarious” is open to interpretation, but really, this is a look into the off-the-field lives of athletes. Sure, there is one press conference mama joke and two locker-room scenes, but for the most part, we’re talking about how athletes spend their free time. In particular, we’re talking about athletes who spend their free time doing hilarious things.

Let’s see if anyone can beat LeBron James' Halloween costume.

Manny Pacquiao Sings "Let It Go"

1 of 17

Manny Pacquiao is a talented individual—just not when it comes to singing. His rendition of “Let it Go” from Frozen will make you laugh, but it may bust your eardrums at the same time.

LeSean McCoy’s DeSean Jackson Impression

2 of 17

LeSean McCoy and DeSean Jackson were teammates with the Philadelphia Eagles for five years, so they should know each other pretty well.

That’s why McCoy’s impression of the wide receiver is so funny, not to mention the fathead with a perfect facial expression.

Joel Embiid on Social Media

3 of 17

Joel Embiid’s social media shenanigans might just be better than his basketball skills. First, he asked out Kim Kardashian on Twitter, then he apologized when he found out she was married. No worries, he moved right along to romancing Rihanna via the Interwebs.

Most recently, he was bold enough to call out LeBron James after the Cavaliers lost to his 76ers with this gem of a tweet: “I told him to sign with us back in the summer and he didn't smh.”

A.J. Hawk

4 of 17

Green Bay Packers linebacker A.J. Hawk laid out some dude at a celebrity golf tournament back in July. Normally I wouldn’t label violence as hilarious, but the guy actually asked him to do it. And the resulting hit plus crowd reaction was pretty funny.

Tigers in Zubaz

5 of 17

In May, the Detroit Tigers celebrated a sweep in Boston by all rocking Zubaz pants together. Apparently Joba Chamberlain started the fad, and it caught on. When it comes to the funniest Tiger, however, Miguel Cabrera is the clear winner here.

Pet Pig

6 of 17

Marcin Gortat of the Washington Wizards apparently has a pet pig. Or does he?

Gortat told 106.7 The Fan (via The Washington Post) that it wasn’t his pet, but rather a random pig he found in a shopping center. Somehow that makes it even funnier.

Kevin Durant Bowling

7 of 17

Bowling in and of itself is not that funny, but I just really love these celebrations. Who would've guessed that one of the NBA’s brightest stars is also a good bowler? Kevin Durant appears to have some touchdown dance skills as well.

Jeremy Lin Pranks

8 of 17

Jeremy Lin is a notorious prankster. There was that time he faked out museum-goers by pretending to be a wax statue. But I don’t think anything can beat the time he posterized his own mom.

Cardale Jones' Mama Joke

9 of 17

Mama jokes might never go out of style. Recently, at media day for the college football national championship game, Ohio State’s Tyvis Powell razzed his teammate, Cardale Jones, just a little.

Jones shot back with a well-timed mama joke, and it was hilarious.

Blake Griffin Does Stand Up

10 of 17

Here is one athlete who spent his free time trying to be hilarious in a more conventional way. Blake Griffin stopped by The Laugh Factory in Los Angeles back in September to show off some skills at an open mic night. He performed what he called “slam dunk poetry,” and it’s actually pretty funny. Check it out.

Mario Balotelli Ironing

11 of 17

Ironing is not funny, not at all. But it is pretty funny to watch Mario Balotelli iron while reading a book and also dancing. His Instagram caption read, “#KnowledgeIsPower reading books is cool. #StayInSchoolKids.” Hilarity with a good message—right on.

Rob Gronkowski's Dance Moves

12 of 17

It seems like Rob Gronkowski is constantly doing hilarious things off the field—posing with kittens, owning a party bus or making statements like, “Yo soy fiesta.” In fact, on the field might be one of the only places he is serious.

It’s impossible to pick just one favorite moment, but Gronk busting a move at a Beyonce concert over the summer is pretty funny. It kind of reminds me of Elaine’s little kicks from Seinfeld.

Sergio Brown’s Ric Flair Impression

13 of 17

For my purposes, the locker room technically counts as off the field. And it’s a good thing, because that means I can bring you this hilarious Ric Flair impression from Indianapolis Colt Sergio Brown.

Following the Colts' playoff victory over the Cincinnati Bengals, Brown celebrated by showing off his acting chops and impersonating the animated professional wrestler.

NFL Roller Bladers

14 of 17

Blake Griffin posted this gram of Ryan Kalil and Jordan Cameron roller blading, and it’s glorious. Who would’ve thought that an NFL lineman and tight end would be graceful bladers?

While the swim trunks and headwear do add to the entertainment value, the best part, hands down, has to be the wrist guards.

FloBron on Halloween

15 of 17

A lot of athletes dressed up for Halloween in 2014, but the funniest had to be LeBron James as Flo from the Progressive insurance commercials. He posted this photo to his Facebook account, and it’s everything you hoped it would be.

Derek Holland, Dumb and Dumber

16 of 17

If Derek Holland’s Instagram is any indication, he’s a pretty funny dude.

Particularly hilarious is this Dumb and Dumber parody he did with former Texas Rangers teammate Justin Grimm. The video caught the attention of Bobby and Peter Farrelly, directors of Dumb and Dumber To, who promptly invited Holland to make a cameo in the film.

James Harden Does the Carlton Dance

17 of 17

Who didn’t love The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air? I’m betting some of you probably even know all the words to the theme song. Anyway, fans will remember Carlton’s famous celebratory dance.

James Harden attempted to learn the Carlton Dance from the master himself, and hilarity ensued.
