Packers vs Seahawks: Latest Game Info, Odds Guide for NFC Championship Game 2015

R. Cory SmithJan 13, 2015

Just over four months to the date since the two matched up in the season opener, the Green Bay Packers will travel to take on the Seattle Seahawks once again. This time around, it will be to decide the NFC champion.

The franchises fought all season to secure the top two seeds and will clash after pulling out huge wins at home. Like they did last year, the Seahawks will host the NFC Championship Game and need to take down a familiar foe to advance to the Super Bowl.

While it may seem like the Seahawks should breeze past the Packers after the Week 1 blowout, the Packers are nowhere near the same team. Equipped with weapons all over the field on offense, Green Bay will be up to the task against the Legion of Boom.

Breakdown

When it comes to quarterbacks, they don't come much more different than Russell Wilson and Aaron Rodgers. One is a prototypical passer, the other a dual-threat player. One puts up mind-blowing stats while the other befuddles defenses with his efficiency.

However, they both have one thing in common—the ability to win.

Rodgers has been a master of picking apart defenses with his arm, but he has been hobbled by a calf injury recently. He didn't show much mobility on Sunday against Dallas, but he still rolled out of the pocket on two of his three touchdowns.

That is a familiar position for Rodgers to be in, as ESPN Stats & Info notes:

Arguably one of Rodgers' worst games this season was played against Seattle in Week 1. Throwing for just 189 total yards, one touchdown and one interception, Rodgers was unable to get the offense going with the 12th Man bearing down on him.

Even with that disappointing game on his mind, Rodgers spoke about being up for the task, per the team's official account:

As for that defense he will have to face, the Legion of Boom has been surging down the stretch. In their loss, the Panthers scored the most points (17) against Seattle since Week 11. In their last seven games, the Seahawks have allowed 10 or fewer in five matchups.

Facing one of the most potent offenses in the league, it will be up to Kam Chancellor to lead the team into battle yet again. Linebacker K.J. Wright referenced his importance to the defense, via Seattle's official account:

Along with that ridiculous defense, the Seahawks have a proven leader on offense with Wilson. Though he doesn't normally wow anyone with his statistics, Wilson dissected the Panthers defense with 268 passing yards and three touchdowns.

In fact, he's been one of the most consistent quarterbacks in the postseason recently, as John Buccigross of ESPN notes:

If Wilson plans to return to the Super Bowl, he'll have to be perfect again. Facing off with a defense that includes Julius Peppers and Clay Matthews, the Packers pack plenty of punch as well.

Returning to the Super Bowl will be a difficult feat for the Seahawks, as Buccigross pointed out. Simply making it to the big game will be an arduous task for Green Bay in Seattle. Expect plenty of fireworks in this massive showdown for NFC supremacy.
