Manchester City Transfer News and Rumours Tracker: Week of January 12

Rob PollardJan 12, 2015

Manchester City face a crucial January period.

Arsenal are their next opponents in the Premier League. They have an FA Cup fourth-round tie with Middlesbrough. They travel to leaders Chelsea at the end of the month for a game with huge significance in terms of the title race.

Their 1-1 draw with Everton on Saturday was disappointing given their dominance for long periods, but they are in touching distance of Jose Mourinho's side after being eight points adrift just a few weeks ago.

City look set to spend during this transfer period, too. A striker is the priority, but there could well be other deals struck. With players also set to leave, a window that is busier than expected could be on the cards.

Here's this week's roundup of all the rumours regarding the champions.

City Interested in £20 Million Rodriguez?

Southampton's Jay Rodriguez is the latest player to be linked with a move to City, according to a report by Sam Cunningham in the Mail.

With City likely to need some home-grown talent in the summer to help comply with Premier League and UEFA quota rules, Rodriguez could be the answer.

Cunnigham believes a £20 million offer could see Southampton consider selling the 25-year-old, but their preference is to get him to sign a new long-term deal with them.

City Agree Fee with Swansea for Striker Bony

BBC Sport is reporting that City have now agreed a fee of £28 million with Swansea City for the signing of Wilfried Bony.

The Ivory Coast star, who is currently playing in the Africa Cup of Nations, scored more Premier League goals in the calendar year of 2014 than Alvaro Negredo and has been earmarked by Manuel Pellegrini as the striker he needs to replace Negredo, who departed in the summer.

According to the report, "the deal is £25 million cash upfront with a further £3 million in performance-related add-ons."

Lacazette Also a City Target?

According to Paul Hetherington writing in the Daily Star, City are also interested in Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette.

The 23-year-old, who continues to impress in Ligue 1, is a summer target for the Blues, who may consider selling Stevan Jovetic to fund the deal.

City's scouting department have watched Lacazette closely. According to Hetherington, this weekend a team of three scouts "saw him score his 19th goal in only 21 games this season as Lyon defeated Lens 3-2 in the French Cup."
