Texas A&M Football: Aggies' Top Remaining Recruiting Targets

Michael TaglientiJan 13, 2015

The Texas A&M football coaches are busy trying to complete the 2015 recruiting class. The Aggies have a number of targets still out there that the coaches are trying to reel in.

Recruiting is an ever-changing, dynamic process. As recruiting targets verbally pledge to different schools, other players rise up the coaches' boards.

When new coaches are added to the staff, they may prefer to replace some of the players that have already committed or add other players that they were recruiting at their previous school.

Texas A&M's new defensive coordinator John Chavis may have a different preference for what he desires in defensive recruits than former Aggies defensive coordinator Mark Snyder. With Chavis' arrival in Aggieland, some of the defensive targets are going to change.

This is a look at the top remaining recruiting targets for the Aggies.

LB Leo Lewis

1 of 4

Leo Lewis is an inside linebacker recruit from Brookhaven, Mississippi. The 6'3", 225-pound athlete is rated as a 4-star recruit and the No. 1 inside linebacker recruit in the country.

Lewis is currently committed to Ole Miss. He is supposed to take an official visit to Texas A&M on January 16 and is currently still considering the Aggies, Mississippi State and Alabama.

Lewis had 76 tackles with a sack and a forced fumble in 2014. He displays good instincts and has the size and the speed necessary to be an effective linebacker in the SEC.

You can never have too much depth in the SEC. The Aggies need help at the linebacker position, and Lewis is the type of talent that could make an immediate impact.

OLB Dwain Thomas

2 of 4

Dwain Thomas is an outside linebacker recruit from Hahnville High School in Boutte, Louisiana. He is currently committed to Louisiana-Lafayette.

Thomas is rated as a 3-star prospect and the No. 46 overall recruit in the state of Louisiana. He is scheduled to make an official visit to Texas A&M on January 16.

Athletes like Thomas are what make recruiting fun. He is not very highly thought of by all of the recruiting websites, but he jumps out at you when you watch him on video.

Thomas has tremendous speed and quickness but appears to be smaller than the 6'2" height that is listed on his 247Sports profile. He is likely being downgraded by the recruiting sites because of his lack of ideal size. Thomas' play reminds you of former LSU linebacker and former Chavis pupil Kevin Minter.

DT Daylon Mack

3 of 4

Daylon Mack, a defensive tackle from Gladewater, Texas, remains the top target on the Aggies' recruiting board. The 6'0", 320-pound athlete is rated as a 5-star recruit and the No. 18 overall recruit in the nation.

Mack has explosive quickness off of the ball and tremendous strength. He would have been in the rotation at nose guard at A&M in 2014 if he had been eligible to play.

Mack has the potential to have the kind of impact at nose guard in 2015 that Myles Garrett had for the Aggies at defensive end in 2014. He still has visits scheduled with Texas A&M and Auburn

Mack is a recruit that the Aggies desperately need to land on national signing day.

WR DaMarkus Lodge

4 of 4

DaMarkus Lodge is a wide receiver from Cedar Hill High School in Cedar Hill, Texas. The 6'2", 190-pound athlete is rated as a 4-star prospect and the No. 49 overall recruit in the nation.

Lodge had a huge junior season in 2013 with 72 receptions for 1,255 yards and 22 touchdowns in helping Cedar Hill to the Texas Class 5A state title. He started out slow in 2014, but he ended the season strong with another state championship.

Lodge finished his senior campaign with 63 catches for 1,218 yards and 25 touchdowns. He caught four passes for 101 yards and two touchdowns in the Class 6A state title game.

Lodge has great size and body control in the air. The Aggies are very deep at the wide receiver position, but you cannot pass on adding a talent like Lodge.

He has visits scheduled to Texas A&M and Ole Miss and is considering them both in addition to Baylor.
