The Marlins acquired Haren back in December in the Dee Gordon trade with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Haren, however, cast doubt on whether he'd ever wear a Miami jersey.

"I have been notified of the trade to Miami," he said in a statement released to the media, per Fox Sports. "My strong desire to remain in southern California has been well-documented. I will have to evaluate my options carefully before making any decisions."

MLB.com's Joe Frisaro reported on Saturday that the Marlins were hoping that Haren would come around since he brings experience to the starting rotation and is a cheaper alternative than what's available on the free-agent market.

Although they've hurt the team in the short term, the trades the Marlins have made over the last couple of years have provided a talented young core of stars around whom the franchise can build.

If Miami is serious about becoming a contender, experienced arms like Haren could prove invaluable.
