Police Report Provides New Details on Johnson's Arrest

Monday, Jan. 12

Daryl Slater of NJ.com provided more details from the police report of Johnson's arrest. Officer Michal Mislang, who made the arrest, recorded the following information:

"

I approached the vehicle on the driver's side. I immediately saw the handle of a handgun on the floor between the driver's feet. It was a black semi-automatic handgun. I told the driver, later identified as suspect Christopher Johnson, not to reach towards the firearm and informed him that I saw it. I also noticed a black backpack with $100 bills on the outside as a design sitting between his feet as well. [...]

When I removed suspect Johnson he seemed hesitant to tell me something. I asked him if he wanted to tell me anything and he replied, "Yeah, there is actually a second gun in the bag on the floor. I asked him which bag he was referring to. He replied, "That backpack that was between my feet." Inside the backpack in the same unzipped compartment that was pulled open there was a black handgun.

PFT has confirmed a report that Johnson was arrested on Friday for open carrying of a firearm, a second degree misdemeanor.

A league source tells PFT that Johnson does have a license to carry in Florida. But this arrest wasn’t just for carrying, it was for open carrying.

Fox Sports' Jay Glazer reveals details from the arrest:

I'm told Chris Johnson was pulled over for rolling through a stop sign. officer asked to search his car. He cooperated and cop found his firearm under a book bag under his seat instead of locked up in car. Even tho it was licensed and registered it was considered " open fire arm" so a misdemeanor.

Darryl Slater of NJ.com provided more details behind the arrest:

It's listed as a second-degree misdemeanor charge. No future court date was immediately noted.

Johnson is coming off his first season with the Jets after spending six years with the Tennessee Titans. The East Carolina product rushed for 663 yards and scored two total touchdowns while playing in all 16 games for New York.   

He doesn't have a track record of off-field problems. More information about the situation, including what type of punishment he could face as a result, will be added as further details are released.
