Panthers vs. Seahawks: Madden Accurately Predicts Weekend's Playoff Matchup

Brian MaziqueJan 9, 2015

Who says video games aren't real?

Well, everyone who isn't insane. However, as technology continues to evolve and more real athletes and coaches are incorporated into game development, the lines are being blurred.

Anyone who bought a copy of Madden 15 on a next-generation console was greeted with the interactive intro that featured the Carolina Panthers on the road against the Seattle Seahawks with a trip to the Super Bowl on the line. You control the Panthers and try to pull off the improbable road win.

Saturday night's game won't send the winner to the Super Bowl, but there are still some eerie similarities. The accurate prediction was enough to turn YouTuber Shadow Avenger into a conspiracy theorist.

As presentation director Brian Murray and creative director Mike Young discuss in the video above, the team was looking for a David and Goliath theme for the experience.

With the Panthers qualifying for the postseason with a 7-8-1 record and facing the top-seeded Seahawks in the NFC Divisional Round, I'd say that's what we have on our hands.

Murray and Young also talk about Cam Newton's likability and leadership. Both have been on full display as the quarterback has bounced back from injuries incurred during a car accident to lead his team to this point.

There's no question, outside of Seahawks Nation, the Panthers would seemingly be the sentimental pick.

It's interesting to hear the thought process involved in making such a cool and engrossing game intro. Check out the video in its entirety to see all the details.
