Koetter Speaks About Quarterback Position

Tuesday, Jan. 13

Roy Cummings of The Tampa Tribune provides comments from Koetter:

Koetter Hired by Bucs

Friday, Jan. 8

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers exchanged one former college football coach for another.

The team announced on Thursday that it has hired Dirk Koetter as its offensive coordinator:

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reported that Koetter was atop the team's wish list, so the Bucs got their man:

After finishing 30th in total offense in 2014, the Buccaneers released former OC Jeff Tedford, who had also taken a leave of absence from the team after having a coronary angioplasty done in the offseason.

In Tedford's place comes Koetter, 55, who has previously been an offensive coordinator with both the Jacksonville Jaguars and most recently the Atlanta Falcons.

Around The NFL and NFL.com's Chris Wesseling believe Tampa Bay did a nice job filling the vacancy:

Scott Smith of Buccaneers.com thinks that Koetter has proven to be flexible in the past with regard to his overall offensive strategy:

The Buccaneers have the first overall pick in the 2015 NFL draft, and many expect the team to select one of Marcus Mariota or Jameis Winston. Drafting a franchise quarterback would give Koetter a nice foundation from which to build.

In four of the last five years, Tampa Bay finished in the bottom half in terms of total offense. With Koetter now in the fold, the unit should become an area of strength very soon.
