Dolphins Have No Interest in Quinn Despite Other Teams' Fears

Wednesday, Jan. 14

According to Jason LaCanfora of CBS Sports, there is a fear amongst interested teams that Seahawks defensive coordinator Dan Quinn could take the Dolphins head coaching job if current coach Joe Philbin doesn't accept the extension being offered to him:

However, LaCanfora reported that Miami wouldn't be interested in Quinn, even if the team was in the market for a coach:

Jason Cole of Bleacher Report also supported the report that Miami has no interest in Quinn:

Philbin Offered Extension

Thursday, Jan. 8

Despite three seasons without a playoff appearance, Miami Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin has reportedly been offered a two-year contract extension.

According to Andrew Abramson of the Palm Beach Post, the extension is expected to be two years in length:

Despite that, there is no guarantee that Philbin will be at the helm beyond the 2015 NFL campaign. Per Abramson, the Dolphins are making the move in order to keep Philbin under team control in 2016 in the event that he has a strong 2015 season.

Omar Kelly of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel adds that the extension essentially provides the illusion of continuity:

With that said, continuity may not be the best thing considering the fact that Miami has gone a pedestrian 23-25 under Philbin's leadership.

Many assumed that a coaching change was inevitable since the Dolphins seemingly can't get over the hump necessary to qualify for the postseason. Even so, the organization is apparently willing to give Philbin one more chance.

According to Kelly, Philbin's ability to develop talent may be one of the reasons why the team brass decided to keep him in place:

There is no question that young players like quarterback Ryan Tannehill, running back Lamar Miller and wide receiver Jarvis Landry have made strides under Philbin, but it remains to be seen if that will lead to a playoff berth.

If it doesn't, then all signs point toward Philbin's time with the Dolphins reaching its conclusion following the 2015 campaign.
