Key Matchup: DeMarco Murray vs. Green Bay’s Front Seven

The matchup between quarterbacks Tony Romo and Aaron Rodgers will be a major topic of discussion over the coming days, but the real key to success in this game will be the battle between DeMarco Murray and Green Bay’s run-stoppers.

Murray has been an absolute beast for the Cowboys this season. As the team’s workhorse, he carried the ball 392 times for 1,845 yards and 13 touchdowns and also managed to add 57 receptions for another 416 yards.

There is no doubt Murray has shown signs of wearing down after playing in all 16 regular-season games and the first-round of the playoffs, but he is still running behind one of the most talented offensive lines in the league.

Adam Levitan of Rotoworld talked about Murray’s workload last week against Detroit:

When asked about what makes Murray so successful, Green Bay defensive coordinator Dom Capers told Paul Imig of FoxSports.com, "This offense is kind of built for (Murray), too, because he can really press the hole. And with their line, their line's very athletic, so if they get you moving laterally, he's got the ability to plant his foot and then cut the thing back to the open area. He does a nice job of that.”

Murray will be squaring off against a Packers run defense that has struggled with consistency. After starting the year with several terrible performances, the Green Bay coaching staff made the decision to slide pass-rushing outside linebacker Clay Matthews to the inside.

While still very dangerous off the edge, Matthews has embraced his new role. He's one of the best run-stopping middle linebackers left in the playoffs. If Murray wants to run all over the Packers on Sunday, he will have to elude the grasp of Matthews.

Murray's workload has brought Dallas to this point of the postseason, but the running back will not have enough left in the tank to break through the improved Green Bay defensive front seven.

The Packers should be able to pull out the win over the Cowboys.

Predicted Final Score: Green Bay 27, Dallas 24
