Monday, March 16

Fox Sports' Mike Garafolo reported that Shorts and the Texans agreed to a two-year, $6 million deal.

Zac Jackson of Fox Sports Ohio reported earlier on Monday that Shorts was signing a two-year deal with the Texans.

John McClain of the Houston Chronicle had initially reported Monday that Shorts was visiting with the team.

Shorts Has No Visit Planned with Browns

Monday, March 16

Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com reported Shorts, whom Cabot clarified as being from Cleveland's Collinwood High School and the University of Mount Union, "has no visit planned" with the Browns.

On Feb. 21, ESPN.com's Jeremy Fowler reported Cleveland is keen to capitalize on Shorts' availability and there is mutual interest. "Wide receiver Cecil Shorts III is interested in returning home to Cleveland, which has the free agent on its radar as March 10 approaches," Fowler revealed.

Shorts Drawing Consideration from Chargers

Saturday, March 14

Michael Gehlken of U-T San Diego reported the San Diego Chargers have shown interest in Shorts.

Jets Reach out to Shorts

Thursday, March 12

"A person with knowledge of the situation told NJ Advance Media on Thursday the Jets have reached out to free-agent wide receiver Cecil Shorts III, who spent the last four seasons with the Jaguars. That person asked to remain anonymous because the process is still playing out," reported Dom Cosentino of NJ.com.

Dolphins Have Interest in Shorts

Thursday, March 5

Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reported that "among the receivers the Dolphins have discussed internally: Cecil Shorts, who had 53 receptions for 557 yards for Jacksonville last season. Eddie Royal, Nate Washington and Hakeem Nicks also would make sense among reasonably-priced receivers."

Simms: Vikings Should Target Shorts

Tuesday, March 3

Bleacher Report's Chris Simms discussed the players the Vikings needed to target in free agency, including Shorts:

Jacksonville acquired Marqise Lee and Allen Robinson in the second round of last year's draft and saw undrafted rookie Allen Hurns come on strong as well.

Shorts' odds of staying with the Jags appear to be longer in that context; however, he is the only veteran presence in Jacksonville's prospective 2015 receiving corps. That could be valuable as young quarterback Blake Bortles continues to develop.

If another front office falls in love with Shorts, though, the Jags may not be able to match his asking price. Shorts hasn't been quite as explosive as he was in his second season in 2012, when he had 979 yards on 17.8 yards per catch in just 14 games.

The 27-year-old is entering his fifth NFL season and hasn't played a full 16 games in any of his previous years, and he had just 10.5 yards per reception in 2014.

Those factors have to be at least mild cause for concern as teams pursue Shorts—and as Jacksonville general manager David Caldwell decides whether or not to secure Shorts for the long haul.
