WWE Main Event Results: Winners, Twitter Reaction and Analysis from January 6

The Doctor Chris MuellerJan 6, 2015

Welcome to Bleacher Report's recap of this week's Main Event. Here is where we take a look at what happened on the show, examining the winners, reactions to matches and any possible ramifications coming out of the program.

This week's episode featured a lot of coverage of Monday's purge by The Authority. Backstage interviews with Dolph Ziggler, Ryback and Erick Rowan were played along with several clips of Stephanie McMahon firing them.

Main Event usually features four matches, but all the recaps only allowed for three. Surprisingly, Nikki Bella and Paige had the best performance of the night, a rare feat for a Bella twin.

The other two singles matches were pretty average by the standards of the performers involved. Let's take a look at everything from this week's Main Event.

Paige vs. Nikki Bella

This match was scheduled after Paige beat up Brie Bella during the match between Natalya and Nikki Bella on Raw.

Paige has always been known for her aggression, but it was a little surprising to see Nikki show just as much as the young Diva.

It was almost as if someone else was wrestling for Nikki. The pace was consistent, and the fact they kept things interesting for as long as they did speaks to the skill of both women.

The way Nikki focused on the left arm of Paige throughout the match and the variety of offense she used to inflict punishment really made her look like a veteran.

Paige will likely get a lot of credit for making this match watchable, but Nikki deserves just as much for showing just how she has improved over the past few years.

The women of NXT get a lot of praise for providing the best women's wrestling on a weekly basis, but this match will give them a run for their money.

Even with Brie's distraction, Nikki couldn't overcome Paige's resilience. The bout came to an end when the former Divas champion hit the "Ram-Paige" on the current Divas champion.

Winner: Paige

Grade: B+

Notes and Highlights:

  • Why are Paige and Natalya hanging out? If it's supposed to be a Total Divas thing, it makes even less sense due to the current storyline on the show.
  • Brie's fashion choices are just weird these days.
  • Paige had a huge black smudge on her forehead halfway through the match, and I cannot figure out where it could have come from.
  • Nikki came close to having a wardrobe malfunction toward the end of the match.

Twitter Reaction:

Fandango vs. R-Truth

In the contest of Rap vs. Rumba, Rumba came away with the win thanks to a leg drop off the top rope.

This was an average match. R-Truth hit all his usual moves, and Fandango came back in the end to pick up the victory.

Truth was getting some wins recently over Adam Rose, but it appears as if he has returned to his role as an enhancement talent.

It's too bad WWE can't find a better spot for him. Truth really is a talented wrestler who can be good on the mic when he isn't playing up his babyface gimmick and asking the crowd "What's up?" every few seconds.

Winner: Fandango

Grade: C

Notes and Highlights:

  • Have they been announcing him as "The new and improved Fandango" the whole time? This is the first time I have noticed it.
  • A couple of years ago, Truth made one mistake when saying what city Raw was in, and the announcers are still bringing it up. In fairness, it was pretty funny.
  • Is it a coincidence that Truth is facing all of the gimmicks that involve dancing?

Twitter Reaction:

Jack Swagger vs. Titus O'Neil

These two former collegiate stars had a physical match, but the pace was kept too slow for far too long.

The last couple of minutes saw Jack Swagger make a comeback and run through some quick signature moves, but it felt like too little, too late.

Still, Swagger and Titus O'Neil looked good in other ways. Both men displayed their impressive strength, and Swagger got to show off some of his experience while putting over someone who could have a breakout year.

O'Neil picked up the win with his finisher, which is basically an elevated spinebuster.

Winner: Titus O'Neil

Grade: C+

Notes and Highlights:

  • It's safe to say that we all miss Zeb Colter
  • Why was O'Neil's promo before the match so bad? We've all heard him be much better on the mic numerous times in the past.
  • Swagger's hair looked like something out of an anime after a few minutes.
