Lionel Messi Says Sorry After Missing Training Day and Visit to Hospital

Just one day after Barcelona lost 1-0 to Real Sociedad in La Liga, the club held their annual open training day for fans. 

A big crowd turned up for the session, which was followed by visits to hospitals within the city.

However, one man was not there. Lionel Messi missed the session with gastroenteritis, just a day after starting from the bench during the Sociedad game. 

Messi took to social media to say sorry for not attending the day's festivities, writing, as per Marca: "I would have liked to have taken part in the Christmas training session. I've never missed it before, but you can't control these types of setbacks. I hope every kid's wishes come true."

Those who did turn up were not disappointed as they saw Neymar score five goals.
