Damian Lillard Becomes 5th Trail Blazer with 500 3-Pointers

Bleacher Report MilestonesJan 6, 2015

Portland Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard became the fifth player in franchise history with 500 career three-pointers when he drained a 25-footer during the fourth quarter of Monday's 98-94 win over the Los Angeles Lakers, per the Trail Blazers' official Twitter account.

The milestone shot came with two minutes, 32 seconds remaining in the quarter, and it pushed Portland's lead to 91-87.

Lillard had already hit two three-pointers in the quarter, and he would ultimately finish the frame with 16 of his game-high 39 points. He scored 16 of Portland's final 22 points, with fellow All-Star LaMarcus Aldridge accounting for the other six.

Portland relied heavily on its superstar duo, as Aldridge and Lillard were the only Blazers to score any points over the final nine minutes of Monday's game.

Having further added to his reputation as one of the NBA's top closers, Lillard will enter Thursday's game against the Miami Heat with career-high averages for points (22.2), rebounds (5.0), three-pointers made (2.8) and steals (1.5), along with a field-goal percentage (46.0) that's easily the best of his young career.

Only in his third season, the 24-year-old point guard joins Terry Porter (773), Wesley Matthews (759), Damon Stoudamire (717) and Nicolas Batum (687) as the only players to hit 500 or more three-pointers in a Blazers uniform.

Matthews is set to become the all-time franchise leader within the next couple of weeks, but it seems rather likely that Lillard will one day hold the mark.
