Giroux Suffers Leg Injury

Friday, Jan. 2

Giroux, who has played in all 37 of Philadelphia's games entering play on Friday, was taken out of tonight's game against Carolina with a leg injury and won't return, per general manager Ron Hextall, via the Flyers' official Twitter account:

Footage of the injury, which can be seen in this Vine from former hockey writer Dave Lozo, doesn't make it seem promising:

However, per Frank Seravalli of The Philadelphia Daily News, Giroux appears to have dodged a bullet with his post-game comments:

The 26-year-old Giroux has been one of the few bright spots in Philadelphia so far this season. He is second on the team with 43 points and a plus-minus rating of plus-nine. He's been durable throughout his career, playing every game in four of the last five years with 77 in 2011-12.

The Flyers have 35 points through 37 games this season, tied for fifth in the division and 12th in the Eastern Conference. They've struggled on both sides of the puck, so Giroux's absence would be another obstacle the team had to overcome if it wants to make any noise in the playoff race.
