The England international appeared to pull his hamstring as he was reaching for a pass in the 74th minute and immediately clutched his leg before signalling to the sideline. He was replaced by Rafael da Silva.
Often the butt of jokes in the past two seasons, the 29-year-old had reinvented himself under new manager Louis van Gaal in recent months, and if the tricky winger is forced to miss a significant amount of time, his loss will no doubt be felt on the pitch.
