OVER 10 Boston Red Sox/New York Yankees:
Here we go folks, the first of a crucial 4 game set between the Red Sox and Yankees begins tonight at Yankee Stadium. We always expect a lot of fireworks when these two teams get together, but with John Smoltz on the mound for Boston, we should see plenty of baseballs flying out of the yard tonight.

Smoltz (2-4, 7.12) is a sure fire, first ballot Hall of Famer, but he’s clearly not helping the Red Sox as we hit the most important part of the 2009 season. He’s been terrible and if that continues, the Sox will have to make a decision on his future. They picked him to add a veteran presence as they play important games in September, but this is not what they signed up for. He’s 2-3 with a 7.48 ERA in his last 5 starts and has allowed 6 home runs in his last 26 innings pitched. This could be ugly tonight.

Joba Chamberlain takes the mound for the pinstripes. Chamberlain is 7-2 with a 3.58 ERA this season, and has been pitching great recently. However, he struggles against Boston. He took the loss the last time he faced them, going only 5 inning and allowing 4 runs on 6 hits on May 5. He tends to get emotional on the mound and sometimes that hurts him, especially in a game against the bitter rivals.

Expect a very high scoring, entertaining game tonight in game 1 of this series.
